Intraocular surgery system

The present invention is an intraocular surgery system using a Venturi pump and capable of preventing clogging due to nucleus fragments, despite a reduced aspiration flow rate. The intraocular surgery system includes: an air pumping means (21); a Venturi tube (22) to which air is supplied from the air pumping means; a drainage tank (28) that is connected to a narrowed part of the Venturi tube; an intraocular surgery device (1) configured to fragment a nucleus inside an eye using ultrasonic vibrations, and discharge the nucleus together with a perfusate; a first aspiration tube (31) through which the perfusate discharged from the intraocular surgery device passes; a separation device (4) to which the first aspiration tube is connected, and that is configured to separate the nucleus from the perfusate that has flown from the first aspiration tube; and a second aspiration tube (32) that has an inner diameter that is smaller than an inner diameter of the first aspiration tube, and is configured to supply the drainage tank with the perfusate discharged from the separation device.

A fluid collection device includes a fluid collection container and an adapter. The fluid collection container includes a vent. The adapter is configured to removably couple with the fluid collection container over the vent. The adapter includes a connecting portion and a port attachable to the connecting portion. The port has a non-sealed position and a sealed position with respect to the vent when the connecting portion is coupled to the fluid connection container and positioned over the vent. In the non-sealed position the vent is in fluid communication with a surrounding environment.

System and method for providing pressurized infusion and increasing operating room efficiency

Apparatus, system and method for providing pressurized infusion of liquids and, more particularly, providing a stable and pressurized flow of fluid to the eye during surgery. Aspiration fluid may be received via an aspiration line at a first peristaltic pump, where aspiration fluid is transferred to a Venturi tank reservoir coupled to a second peristaltic pump. Fluid from a fluid source is provided via a third peristaltic pump to a pressurized infusion tank. A determination is made if the pressure in the pressurized infusion tank is at a predetermined level, where fluid may be transferred from the pressurized infusion tank to an irrigation line when pressure in the pressurized infusion tank is determined to be at the predetermined level. Alternate activation of a plurality of aspiration and irrigation lines are also provided.

Foot pedal occlusion indicator system, apparatus, and method

A system, method and apparatus for notifying a surgeon of an occlusion in an ocular surgical apparatus are disclosed herein. Through operation of a handpiece of the surgical apparatus, the handpiece may become blocked or occluded. An occlusion detector is configured to sense the occlusion in the handpiece, and an occlusion signal is generated. A control module is provided to send an occlusion warning signal to a foot pedal of the surgical apparatus, where a tactile notification is provided to a user of the apparatus that an occlusion has occurred.

Suction Device for Surgical Instruments

A suction device is shown and described. The suction device includes a body, an input port configured to receive a flow of matter, a suction port, and a suction lumen that couples the suction port to the input port. In some embodiments the suction device is configured to couple with a surgical instrument for use in a surgical procedure.

An accessory for a nasal mucus aspirator includes an accessory body suitable to be gripped and a terminal nozzle placed at a distal end of said accessory body and suitable to be at least partially inserted into a nostril of a user. In the accessory body, there are formed a compressed air inlet passage suitable to be fluidically connected to a compressed air source for receiving a flow of air at a positive pressure, said compressed air inlet passage defining a constriction so as to generate a Venturi effect, and an aspiration duct flowing into said constriction and fluidically connected to the terminal nozzle so as to generate a negative pressure due to the Venturi effect suitable to aspirate the mucus.

Smelt shattering method and apparatus

A smelt shattering apparatus includes an inlet orifice, an outlet orifice, and a fluidic pathway between the inlet orifice and the outlet orifice. A convergence divergence zone is located between the inlet orifice and the outlet orifice. In one illustrative construction, a first separable section includes the inlet orifice, and a second separable section includes the outlet orifice and a divergence zone of the convergence divergence zone. In some constructions, there may be a second outlet orifice in fluidic communication with the inlet orifice. To provide uniformity over the multiple shatter jets, the first outlet orifice may have a cross-sectional dimension and the second outlet orifice is located a distance of between about 4 and about 10 times of the cross-sectional dimension from the first outlet orifice.

FLEXIBLE WALL STORAGE UNIT FOR URINARY RELIEF SYSTEM

A storage unit for a urinary relief system is disclosed herein. The storage unit includes a body, an inlet port coupled to the body, an outlet port coupled to the body, a first porous layer disposed within the body and adjacent the inlet port, an absorbent layer disposed within the body and adjacent the first porous layer, and a second porous layer disposed within the body and adjacent the absorbent layer and the outlet port.

Methods and devices suitable for improved reattachment of detached cartilage to subchondral bone

The methods and devices disclosed herein are effective in the promoting the reattachment of delaminated cartilage to bone. The methods (and related devices) are effective in the removal of the acellular layer of the delaminated cartilage or effective in the indentation of the acellular layer of the delaminated cartilage thereby exposing the underlying chondrocyte cells and thereby allowing the promotion of the reattachment of the delaminated cartilage.
