A controller determines whether a person in at least one of the rear sensor field, the first side sensor field, and the second side sensor field is a recognized passenger, determines a speed of the recognized passenger, determines whether the recognized passenger is carrying an object, and activates the actuation assembly to open at least one of the liftgate and the side door based on whether the recognized passenger is carrying an object, where timing of activation of the actuation assembly is based on the speed of the recognized passenger.

A remote three-way switch. The remote three-way switch includes an actuator configured to actuate a mechanical switch, such as a light switch, according to a signal received from a remote control in wireless communication with the actuator. The signal received directs the actuator to mechanically actuate the switch from an on position to an off position, or from the off position to the on position. The system uses microphones in connection with audio acquisition hardware and voice recognition hardware that actively listen for one or more voiced commands from a user outside of a vehicle. Before activating the mechanical system, which is for example the actuator of the lift gate and lock mechanism for the lift gate, the system will wait for confirmation from a separate vehicle system that monitors and notifies the vehicle lift gate system when an identification code is received from a key fob transponder located in a predetermined proximity of the vehicle, thereby authenticating the one or more voiced commands detected by the microphones.

A pet access control system according to various aspects of the present technology may comprise a door unit interoperable with a security panel holder. The door unit covers a passage through a structure, such as through the wall or door of a building. The door unit may include a connector that may be mounted on a legacy security panel holder or a dedicated mounting system for the door unit. The door unit may operate in conjunction with a pet identification system to automatically identify and grant access only to authorized pets. In various embodiments, the door unit may be controlled remotely, such as via a web browser on a remote computer or an app running on a smartphone.
