Evaporative body-fluid containers and methods
Body-fluid containers, methods, and systems are presented that include a container that has a container housing formed, at least in part, by a liquid-impermeable, vapor-permeable material. The liquid-impermeable, vapor-permeable material allows water to evaporate and be transmitted outside of the container. The evaporation allows more fluid to be processed by the container than the container could otherwise hold. Other systems, methods, and apparatuses are presented.
WOUND DRAIN
Provided herein is a wound drain useful in negative pressure wound treatment therapy. The wound drain advantageously includes structural components that prevent the drain from collapsing under negative pressure and from ingesting foreign materials introduced into a wound cavity, such as gauze and sponges, which con obstruct exudate flow through the drain. The wound drain may further comprise a dual lumen configuration such that it advantageously can be used in for positive pressure applications, or for combined negative and positive pressure treatments.
Multiple-wound negative pressure wound therapy using multiple fluid collection volumes
A negative pressure wound therapy system is configured for treating multiple wounds on a patient's body. The system preferably includes a source of negative air pressure, an air source, a first fluid collection volume, and a second fluid collection volume. The source of negative air pressure is in fluid communication with the first fluid collection volume, the first collection volume is in fluid communication with the second fluid collection volume, and the second fluid collection volume is in fluid communication with the air source, so that the source of negative air pressure, the first fluid collection volume, the second fluid collection volume, and the air source are fluidly connected in series.
VACUUM DRESSING WITH CONTROL FEEDBACK
A wound management system (WMS) is provided that includes dressings, bandages, or implantable medical devices that are equipped with filters, environmental controls, and sensors that promote the formation of a natural biologic seal between the skin and the dressing to form a barrier to microbial invasion into the body that accelerates healing and mitigates wound or exit site infection. Percutaneous access devices (PAD) used with the WMS or other devices including peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheters, Steinman pin, Kirschner wires, and chronic indwelling venous access catheters that require skin penetration. The WMS minimizes risk of exit site infection by reducing the bioburden in the exit tunnel environment in the acute and subacute phases of the PD catheter post-implant. Visualization of the wound without taking off the dressing is provided via a window in the wound area or exit-site to visually monitor for signs of infection and the presence of exudate.
Apparatus and method for wound cleansing with actives
An apparatus and method for cleansing and applying therapy or prophylaxis to wounds, in which irrigant fluid, which may contain a physiologically active material, and wound exudate from the dressing are moved by a device for moving fluid through a flow path which passes through the dressing. A means for fluid cleansing may also be provided to recirculate fluid back to the dressing. The cleansing means removes materials deleterious to wound healing, and the cleansed fluid, still containing materials that are beneficial in promoting wound healing, is returned to the wound bed. The apparatus may also provide means for distributing such materials in a precise and time-controlled manner over the wound bed. It may also contain a means for providing simultaneous aspiration and irrigation of the wound.
CONTACTLESS WOUND TREATMENT BARRIER AND METHOD OF CONTACTLESS WOUND TREATMENT
A contactless wound treatment barrier assembly carrying a primed wound treatment composition carrier is secured to a patient's skin at a location encapsulating a wound. A wound treatment composition is emitted from the carrier in a gaseous state. The gaseous emission remains within an interior volume of the wound treatment barrier assembly. The design of the wound treatment barrier assembly can minimize any contact between a body of the wound treatment barrier assembly, the wound treatment composition carrier and the wound. An insole carrying a wound treatment composition (such as elemental Iodine) can be used in any of a variety of forms. The insole would deliver the treatment composition. The insole can be designed to provide contactless or contact delivery of the treatment composition.
Anatomical training and demonstration model for negative pressure and instillation therapy
A modular wound therapy training device, system, and method of use for the device are provided. The device may include a support tray, an elastic insert, a base within the elastic insert, a recess within the base, a conformable polymer, a dressing and a negative pressure source. The recess may be circumferentially smaller than the base and the conformable polymer may be sized to fit within the recess. The device is preferably sized and shaped to form a system when aligned and assembled with duplicates of the device. A method is provided to apply negative pressure and installation therapy when a negative pressure source is activated through a protective dressing.
APPARATUS FOR NEGATIVE-PRESSURE THERAPY AND IRRIGATION
Systems, methods, and apparatuses for irrigating a tissue site are described. The system can include a tissue interface and a sealing member configured to be placed over the tissue site to form a sealed space, and a negative-pressure source fluidly coupled to the sealed space. The system includes an irrigation valve having a housing, a piston disposed in the housing, a fluid inlet to fluidly couple a fluid inlet chamber to a fluid source, and a fluid outlet to fluidly couple a fluid outlet chamber to the sealed space. A piston passage extends through the piston and fluidly couples the fluid inlet chamber and the fluid outlet chamber, and a biasing member is coupled to the piston to bias the irrigation valve to a closed position. The negative-pressure source is configured to move the piston between the closed position and an open position to draw fluid to the sealed space.
Wound treatment apparatus and method
An apparatus for cleansing wounds in which irrigant fluid from a reservoir connected to a conformable wound dressing and wound exudate from the dressing are moved by a device (which may be a single pump or two pumps) for moving fluid through a flow path which passes through the dressing and a means for providing simultaneous aspiration and irrigation of the wound. The apparatus also comprises means to apply high frequency vibrational energy, e.g. ultrasound, to the wound bed. The former removes materials deleterious to wound healing, while distributing materials that are beneficial in promoting wound healing over the wound bed. The latter promotes healing. The dressing and a method of treatment using the apparatus.
Wound dressings and systems for effluent management of topical wound therapy and related methods
This disclosure includes wound dressings and systems for effluent management of topical wound therapy and related methods. Some devices, which are configured to dilute therapeutic gas effluent flowing from a dressing, comprise a therapeutic gas source configured to provide therapeutic gas to the dressing; a container comprising a sidewall that defines a chamber configured to receive therapeutic gas effluent from the dressing; a negative pressure source configured to be coupled to the container such that the negative pressure source can be activated to draw fluid from the dressing through the chamber of the container; and a diluent gas source configured to deliver a diluent gas to dilute therapeutic gas effluent before the therapeutic gas effluent enters the negative pressure source.
