The sensing system is disposed on an exterior surface of the tailgate and includes at least one emitter and at least one receiver. The emitter is positioned to emit radiation in a direction parallel to the exterior surface of the tailgate. The receiver is positioned to receive the radiation emitted by the emitter. The control unit is configured to control operation of the tailgate between to prohibit movement of the tailgate toward the open position when an object interferes with the radiation.

Decouplable power drive for tailgates

A control device is used to move a pick-up truck tailgate. The control device comprises a first gear arrangement connected to a drive cup and a second gear arrangement that is connected to a motor for driving the second gear arrangement. The control device also includes a clutch arrangement positioned between the first and second gear arrangements. When the clutch arrangement is in an engaged position, it couples the first gear arrangement and the second gear arrangement to transmit torque to the first gear arrangement and the drive cup. When the clutch arrangement is in the disengaged position, the first and second gear arrangements are not coupled. Optionally, the control device comprises a brake unit to slow or stop movement of the tailgate. The control device can be positioned within the pick-up truck tailgate.

Tailgate open position adjustment system

Methods and systems for adjusting a position of a tailgate of a vehicle. The system includes a cable connecting the tailgate to a spool configured to turn in a first direction to wind the cable, and turn in a second direction to unwind the cable. The system includes a cable release located between the spool and the tailgate, the cable release, when in the unengaged state, allowing the cable to move through the cable release when the spool turns in the first direction, and preventing movement of the cable through the cable release when force is applied to the cable from the tailgate, and the cable release, when in the engaged state, allowing the cable to move through the cable release when the spool turns in the second direction. The system includes a button configured to toggle the cable release between the engaged state and the unengaged state.

Flap arrangement with a flap for a motor vehicle

A drive arrangement for adjusting a flap of a motor vehicle about a body including a motor, a drivetrain, and a freewheel mechanism. The drivetrain is disposed between the motor and the flap. The freewheel mechanism provided with a drive component including a transmitting element, and a driven component provided with a receiving element coupled to the transmitting element. During motoric movement of the flap between the closed and the open position over at least a portion of the pivot angle, the motor actuates the drive component and displaces the transmitting element, from a neutral position, conjointly with the receiving element along a displacement path.

Counteracting backdrive in a power tailgate system

Embodiments of systems and methods for operating a power tailgate system are disclosed. A vehicle includes a rotatable element structured for operable connection with, and disconnection from, a tailgate when the rotatable element resides in a predetermined tailgate removal orientation. A motor is connected with the rotatable element for interdependent movement, and a motor circuit is provided for the motor. During a driving event, the system identifies when no tailgate is connected with the rotatable element. If no tailgate is connected with the rotatable element, the system determines if the rotatable element resides in the predetermined tailgate removal orientation. If the rotatable element resides in the predetermined tailgate removal orientation, the system may check the rotatable element against rotation during the driving event by operating a motor circuit to electrically brake the motor to prevent the rotatable element from rotating out of the predetermined tailgate removal orientation.

TAILGATE DEACTIVATION SYSTEM

A tonneau cover comprising: (a) a plurality of panels; (b) one or more hinges between each panel of the plurality of panels so that the plurality of panels are rotatably connected together, wherein some or all of the one or more hinges include: (i) a plurality of expansion links that are movably interconnected together, some of the plurality of expansion links including: (1) one or more expansion projections; (2) one or more pockets that receive all or a portion of the one or more expansion projections from an adjacent one of the plurality of expansion links; and (3) one or more expansion stops that restricts movement of the one or more expansion projections from the adjacent one of plurality of the expansion links that extend within the one or more pockets; wherein the one or more hinges rotate so that the one or more hinges form of angle of about 90 degrees or more and about 225 degrees or less.

DRIVE ARRANGEMENT FOR MOTORIZED ADJUSTMENT OF A CARGO-SPACE-TAILGATE ARRANGEMENT OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

A drive arrangement for motorized adjustment of a cargo-space-tailgate arrangement of a motor vehicle the cargo-space-tailgate arrangement including a cargo-space tailgate adjustable between an open position and a closed position, the drive arrangement includes an electric drive, for providing a drive force, and a control arrangement for activating the electric drive. The drive arrangement includes an output element and a drive coupling. The output element transmits the drive force to the drive coupling for motorized adjustment of the cargo-space tailgate. The control arrangement activates the drive in an adjustment routine for motorized adjustment of the cargo-space tailgate to assist an actuation action introduced manually the cargo-space tailgate, and the control arrangement activates the adjustment routine based on an activation preset that is dependent on at least one friction parameter of the drive.

METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A MOTORIZED FLAP ARRANGEMENT OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

A method for controlling a motorized flap assembly of a motor vehicle, wherein the flap assembly includes a pivotable flap, a drive arrangement associated with the flap and a control arrangement for controlling the drive arrangement. A position sensor for determining position information related to the position of a selected component of the flap assembly is associated with the flap assembly and movement commands for the drive arrangement are generated by the control arrangement based on the position information, to close the flap to an upright closed position during a motorized closing process and to open the flap to a horizontal open position during a motorized opening process. The pivoted open flap may be occupied by an object or a person. The position sensor detects the object or person based on at least one occupancy criterion and an occupancy reaction is triggered depending on the detected occupancy state.
