Medicament application adapter comprising a gas blocking element for a hemodialysis tube set

For the administering of medicaments, an adapter is provided for connection to a haemodialysis tube set, which makes possible the direct connection of a standard injection vial to the extracorporeal circuit, avoiding the introduction of air into the circuit. The adapter has two conduit pathways. The conduit pathway for the application of medicament contains a gas-blocking element. The second conduit pathway serves for the aeration of the injection vial.

A portable monitoring device operates to remotely monitor a medical device for use in hospitals and the like. The portable monitoring device includes a signal receiver for receiving a first wireless signal. The medical device can be a portable drip infusion set of the type having a liquid supply, a drip chamber downstream of the liquid supply for forming liquid drops, a flexible tube connecting the drip chamber with an injection needle and a signal emitter for emitting the first wireless signal. The infusion set and the monitoring device each can include printed circuit boards (PCBs) and mutually interconnectible electric contacts. The infusion set includes an electronic circuitry that blocks programming of the infusion set when the monitoring device is not electrically connected to the infusion set.

Flow meter and related system and apparatus

A flow meter includes an image sensor and a processor. The image sensor is configured to capture an image of a drip chamber. The processor is configured to determine whether the captured image of the drip chamber contains a match to a template, and to apply a blurring function to the image captured by the image sensor of the drip chamber such that the processor can determine if the captured image contains a match to the template.

Flow meter having a background pattern with first and second portions

A flow meter includes a first image sensor, a background pattern, and at least one processor. The first image sensor has a first field of view and is positioned to view a drip chamber within the first field of view. The background pattern is positioned within the field of view of the first image sensor, and the background pattern includes first and second portions. The processor is operatively coupled to the first image sensor and configured to: receive a first image from the first image sensor, and estimate at least one parameter of liquid within the drip chamber in accordance with a distortion of the background pattern caused by the liquid as indicated by the first image.

FLOW METERING INSERT AND/OR DEVICE

A flow metering insert (10) for a drip chamber (50) is provided that is suitable for use in intravenous administration. The insert comprises: a primary liquid flow channel with an inlet, an outlet, and a flow-resistant passage between the inlet and the outlet; and a flow indicating channel in communication with the primary liquid flow channel between the inlet and the flow-resistant passage. The flow-resistant passage provides a resistance to liquid flow such that liquid is forced into the flow indicating channel and reaches a height proportional to the rate of liquid flow through the primary liquid flow channel. The flow-resistant passage and the flow indicating channel are at least partially defined by one or more first recesses and/or channels in the insert such that the flow-resistant passage and the flow indicating channel are formed between the insert and a wall of the drip chamber when the insert is inserted into the drip chamber.

A drip chamber is described that is used in medical infusion therapy, wherein the drip chamber utilizes valving to control flow of one or more fluids to a patient. The drip chamber includes a body forming a chamber, wherein fluid may enter via two or more flow ports, and an output port, where fluid may exit the chamber. A float controls fluid flow through one or more flow ports into the chamber such that the flow exiting the chamber may be limited to a single fluid or a combination of the fluids entering the chamber. The float is configured to be retained within the chamber, and the float moves within the chamber based on a level of fluid within the chamber. The control characteristics of the float are determinable by attributing specific buoyancy and dimensions to the float.

MONITORING UPSTREAM FLOW CHARACTERISTICS FOR A PUMP

A system for monitoring upstream flow characteristics for a pump is provided. The system may receive one or more outputs from a fluid level sensor coupled with a pump. The system may detect based on at least the one or more outputs, an abnormal upstream flow condition in the pump, such as a full upstream occlusion in the tube, a partial upstream occlusion in the tube, an empty reservoir, and/or a backflow of the fluid into the drip chamber. The system may adjust, based on the detection of an abnormal upstream flow condition in the pump, operation of the pump.

APPARATUS FOR MONITORING, REGULATING, OR CONTROLLING FLUID FLOW

An apparatus, system and method for regulating fluid flow are disclosed. An apparatus for infusing fluid into a patient includes a housing, a tube-contact member, a rotating arm, and a tube-retention cover. The housing has an opening on a front side of the housing. The opening is sized to receive a drip chamber having an inlet tube and an outlet tube. The tube-contact member contacts one of the inlet tube and the output tube of the drip chamber when inserted into the opening. The rotating arm is coupled to the tube-contact member and is configured to rotate along an axis. The tube-retention cover is configured to close when the drip chamber is initially loaded into the opening.

DEVICE FOR MONITORING AN INFUSION SET

A device provided for monitoring the delivery of fluids through a drip chamber. The device includes an electromagnetic radiation (EMR) source and an EMR detector. A device body is employed to position the source and detector about the drip chamber so that the source and detector define an optical path across the drip chamber. A processor device is employed to detect fluid drops from differences between detector signal values separated by a lag time. The device connects to a monitor which may continuously monitor the detected drips.

A device for managing fluid is provided. The device includes: a drip chamber including: an inlet; and outlet; a check valve positioned between the inlet and the outlet, the check valve configured for managing fluid flowing between the inlet and the outlet; and an elastic element. The combination of the check valve and the elastic element limits the extent to which the one way valve may be opened by brief transient pressures appearing at the outlet of the drip chamber. This limiting effect improves the accuracy of fluid delivery in setups such as ‘piggyback’ or Secondary Mode infusions of two fluids using a single pump.
