Pilot controlled actuation valve system
A tool, e.g. a downhole tool, utilizes at least one actuator which may be actuated rapidly between positions during operation of the tool. The actuator is moved via flow of an actuating fluid controlled by a main valve which, in turn, is controlled via a pilot valve. The pilot valve is operated to selectively control flow of the actuating fluid to the main valve so as to shift the main valve between desired operational positions.

A drill string sub for a rotary steerable drilling system wherein a flow diverter is configured, which flow diverter is configured rotatable about a drill string longitudinal axis at a relative rotation frequency relative to the drill string sub, to preferentially direct drilling fluid into a selected azimuth segment which is stationary relative to the flow diverter. A downhole data unit is configured to provide an information signal representing downhole data. An encoder operatively connected to the flow diverter to modulate the relative rotation in accordance with the information signal for transmitting information representing the downhole data to be detected uphole.

The jetting nozzle comprises a tubular stator body having a fluid discharge slot, and a tubular rotor body residing within a bore of the stator body. The jetting nozzle has one or more bearings residing between the stator body and the surrounding rotor body to accommodate relative rotational movement. The jetting nozzle includes a proximal end configured to sealingly connect to an end of a jetting hose, and to receive a high pressure jetting fluid. Preferably, the nozzle has an outer diameter that is equivalent to or slightly larger than an outer diameter of the jetting hose. Preferably, the jetting assembly has at least three actuator wires configured to induce a controlled bending moment at its distal end, thereby providing for a steerable downhole tool. Jetting collars may be placed along the jetting hose to overcome drag force.
Drill with remotely controlled operating modes and system and method for providing the same
The present invention relates to a drilling system with a multi-function drill head used in, among other applications, oil and gas drilling. The system is used to enhance the effective permeability of an oil and/or gas reservoir by drilling or cutting new structures into the reservoir. The system is capable of cutting straight bores, radius bores, or side panels, by water jets alone or in combination with lasers. In various embodiments, a device for remotely controlling the mode of the system by variations in the pressure of a drilling fluid is also provided, allowing an operator to switch between various modes (straight drilling, radius bore drilling, panel cutting, etc.) without withdrawing the drill string from the well bore.
DRILLING SYSTEM
A bulk material drilling system is described, the drilling system arranged to allow accurate directional control of a drill bit through bulk material via non-mechanical means, while providing real-time feedback on drill bit positioning. A drilling system (22) comprising; a bulk material drill bit (10) having; a sensing portion (18), one or more ports (16) for discharging output energy, the drilling system further comprising; an input portion (30) arranged to detect input parameters from the sensing portion, a controller (32) arranged to control output energy to the port; wherein the controller is further arranged to determine one or more ports to which the output energy is provided; wherein the controller is further arranged to control the discharge of the output energy; wherein the output energy discharge is non-uniformly applied to bulk material; wherein the discharge of the output energy is used to control the drill bit direction. The invention aims to prevent mechanical wear while providing effective steering of a drill bit through bulk material.
Directional drilling steering actuators
A rotary steerable drilling system having a series of actuators disposed with a drilling tool, the series of actuators arranged in close proximity and independently operable to distribute a total steering force applied to a wellbore wall across the series of actuators. The series of actuators are extendable to different distances, such that the radial extension length of the actuators increases between actuators.
