DRILL BIT COMPACT AND METHOD INCLUDING GRAPHENE
A polycrystalline composite tool component and associated methods are disclosed. In one example plurality of diamond particles are coated with a conforming catalyst metal coating and a plurality of graphene particles. Various asymmetric distributions of graphene particles are shown that provide a variety of material properties.
CUTTER GEOMETRY UTILIZING SPHERICAL CUTOUTS
A cutting element comprising a polycrystalline diamond table having a first end attached to a substrate at an interface. The second end of the diamond table includes a concave surface, concave indentations, cutting edges at an interface between the concave surface and an outer diameter of the diamond table. Each of the at least two concave indentations intersects the concave surface and extends radially outward from the concave surface to an outer diameter of the diamond table. A method of manufacturing an earth-boring downhole tool includes providing a tool body and securing to the tool body the cutting element as recited in any one of the claims.
Polycrystalline diamond compacts including a cemented carbide substrate and applications therefor
Embodiments relate to a polycrystalline diamond compact (“PDC”) including a polycrystalline diamond (“PCD”) table bonded to a cemented carbide substrate including tungsten carbide grains having a fine average grain size to provide one or more of enhanced wear resistance, corrosion resistance, or erosion resistance, and a PDC with enhanced impact resistance. In an embodiment, a PDC includes a cemented carbide substrate having a cobalt-containing cementing constituent cementing tungsten carbide grains together exhibiting an average grain size of about 1.5 μm or less. The substrate includes an interfacial surface and a depletion zone depleted of the cementing constituent that extends inwardly from the interfacial surface to a depth of, for example, about 30 μm to about 60 μm. The PDC includes a PCD table bonded to the interfacial surface of the substrate. The PCD table includes diamond grains bonded together exhibiting an average grain size of about 40 μm or less.
Polycrystalline Diamond Compact Cutter With Plow Feature
A cutting element includes a substrate configured to couple to a pocket formed in a blade of a downhole drill bit and a polycrystalline diamond portion secured to the substrate. The polycrystalline diamond portion includes a cutting face, a radial sidewall, and a cutting edge formed at a transition from the radial sidewall to the axial the cutting face. The cutting face includes a plow feature disposed at a center of the cutting face. The plow feature has a face portion and a shoulder portion. The shoulder portion extends radially outward from the face portion and axially downward toward the substrate. Additionally, the cutting face includes a recessed portion extending between the cutting edge and a radially outer edge of the shoulder portion.
Polycrystalline Diamond Compact Cutter With Plow Feature
A cutting element includes a substrate configured to couple to a pocket formed in a blade of a downhole drill bit and a polycrystalline diamond portion secured to the substrate. The polycrystalline diamond portion includes a cutting face, a radial sidewall, and a cutting edge formed at a transition from the radial sidewall to the axial the cutting face. The cutting face includes a plow feature disposed at a center of the cutting face. The plow feature has a face portion and a shoulder portion. The shoulder portion extends radially outward from the face portion and axially downward toward the substrate. Additionally, the cutting face includes a recessed portion extending between the cutting edge and a radially outer edge of the shoulder portion.
BEARING ASSEMBLIES, BEARING APPARATUSES, AND RELATED METHODS
Bearing assemblies that include a plurality of polycrystalline diamond (“PCD”) bearing elements, bearing apparatuses including such bearing assemblies, and methods of operating and fabricating such bearing assemblies and apparatuses are disclosed. In an embodiment, the plurality of PCD bearing elements of one or more of the bearing assemblies disclosed herein include at least one first PCD bearing element. At least a portion of the first PCD bearing element exhibits a coercivity of about 125 Oersteds or more and a specific magnetic saturation of about 14 Gauss cm.sup.3/gram or less. The first PCD bearing element includes a bearing surface with at least one groove formed therein. In an embodiment, the plurality of PCD bearing elements also include at least one second PCD bearing element. The second PCD bearing element exhibits a coercivity that is less than and a specific magnetic saturation that is greater than the first PCD bearing element.
CUTTING ELEMENT WITH IMPROVED MECHANICAL EFFICIENCY
A downhole tool comprising a bit body and a plurality of blades. Each blade having at least one cutting element disposed within the blade. Each cutting element comprising a substrate and a poly crystalline diamond material affixed to the substrate at an interface. The poly crystalline diamond material comprising a raised cutting surface comprising at least two cutting edges, a recess in a center of the raised cutting surface, and transition surfaces between the at least two cutting edges of the raised cutting surface and a side surface of the cutting element. The disclosure also includes a method of manufacturing a downhole tool comprising: forming a drill bit, blades, and cutting elements. Forming the cutting elements comprises forming a raised cutting surface comprising at least two cutting edges, forming a recess in a center of the raised cutting surface and forming transition surfaces between the raised cutting surface and a side surface of the cutting element.
RIDGE SHAPED ELEMENT
A cutting element includes a substrate and an ultrahard layer on an upper surface of the substrate, a top surface of the ultrahard layer having a ridge extending along a major dimension of the top surface from an edge of the top surface, where the ridge has a peak with at least two different roof radii of curvature, and at least two sidewalls sloping in opposite directions from the peak of the ridge at a roof angle, where a first roof angle of the ridge proximate the edge is smaller than a second roof angle in a central portion of the ridge around a longitudinal axis of the cutting element.
Fixed-cutter drill bits with reduced cutting arc length on innermost cutter
The present disclosure provides a fixed-cutter drill bit including a bit body defining a bit rotational axis, a plurality of blades each having an inner end that is radially closer to the bit rotational axis than a remainder of the respective blade, a central bit surface, and a plurality of cutters disposed on the blades and including an innermost cutter located closest among all of the plurality of cutters to the bit rotational axis and having a flattened cutting surface, a cutting arc, and a relief having ends which is located within and interrupts the cutting arc such that the cutting arc includes at least two portions located on opposite ends of the relief. The disclosure also provides a drilling system including the drill bit and a drill string attached to the drill bit and a surface assembly to rotate the drill string and drill bit.
