Methods and systems for rotating a casing to ensure efficient displacement of cement slurry

Rotating a casing during a cementing operation to ensure efficient displacement of cement slurry. More specifically, embodiments are directed towards a sub and rotating tool that are positioned above a first cement operation, wherein the rotating tool is positioned in a kickoff point or build section of a horizontal well.

DRILL ROD AND METHOD FOR RETROFITTING A KELLY BAR ARRANGEMENT
20230123337 · 2023-04-20 · ·

The invention relates to a drill rod for transferring a torque comprising an elongate rod base body, along which runs at least one base line for a fluid and/or electric current and/or data, an upper suspension device for suspending the drill rod from a support element, a rotary bearing, which is arranged between the suspension device and the rod base body, wherein the rod base body is mounted rotatably relative to the suspension device about a rod longitudinal axis, and a rotary feedthrough, through which a line connection is formed between at least one feed line, which is fixed relative to the support element, and the at least one base line of the rotatably-mounted rod base body. The invention is characterized here in that the rotary bearing is arranged axially distanced from the rotary feedthrough, and in that the rotary bearing comprises an axial bearing which is arranged above or below the rotary feedthrough. The invention furthermore relates to a drilling apparatus comprising such a drill rod and to a method for retrofitting an existing Kelly bar arrangement.

PDM transmission with ball-CV torque transfer

A ball-CV style transmission suitable for use in a Positive Displacement Motor (PDM). A shaft provides shaft wings received into housing receptacles on a housing. A ball and a Torque Transfer Element (TTE) is interposed between each shaft wing and housing within each housing receptacle, with the ball received into opposing recesses preferably on the shaft wing and the TTE. The TTEs float within their corresponding housing receptacles so as to maintain torque transfer contact between all thrust surfaces during articulated rotation of the shaft with respect to the housing. The TTEs preferably float generally radially towards the shaft centerline as angular deflection increases during articulated rotation.

Cross BOP swivel joint for string rotation during well control events
11661802 · 2023-05-30 · ·

A cross BOP swivel joint for crossing over a blowout preventer of a drilling apparatus includes a swivel housing, an internal pipe received through the swivel housing. The internal pipe includes an upper loading shoulder and a lower loading shoulder. The cross BOP swivel joint includes an upper journal bearing, lower journal bearing, and at least one central bearing between the swivel housing and the internal pipe. The central bearings are axially disposed between the journal bearings. When engaged, the BOP contacts the outer surface of the swivel housing of the cross BOP swivel joint. The journal bearings allow the internal pipe to rotate relative to the swivel housing when the BOP is engaged with the swivel housing. This allows rotation of the drill string during well control events. The central bearing provides radial support to the swivel housing to reduce inward deflection of the swivel housing.

Entering a lateral wellbore in a multi-lateral wellbore with a guide tool

A method and a lateral entry guide tool for deploying a work string in a wellbore defining a window and a lateral wellbore extending from the window are described. The work string and the tool are run through the wellbore to a distance above the window. A locator subassembly is activated to detect the window. The tool is run through the wellbore in a downhole direction from the distance above the window past the window. After the locator subassembly indicates that the tool is past the window, a window entry depth is determined based a depth at which the window was detected. The work string is pulled back to position the tool at the window entry depth. A positioning subassembly is activated. The work string is run through the window while adjusting and calibrating the positioning subassembly as the work string pass through the window into the lateral wellbore.
