Rotating control device for jackup rigs
A rotating control device includes a bowl housing with an inner aperture to receive a seal and bearing assembly. A plurality of hydraulically-actuated fail-last-position latching assemblies are disposed about an outer surface of the bowl housing to controllably extend a plurality of piston-driven dogs radially into a groove of the seal and bearing assembly. The seal and bearing assembly includes a housing, a mandrel disposed within an inner aperture of the housing, a first interference-fit sealing element attached to a bottom distal end of the mandrel, a plurality of tapered-thrust bearings indirectly mounted to the housing, a preload spacer disposed between top and bottom tapered-thrust bearings, a plurality of jam nuts to adjust a preload of the tapered-thrust bearings, and a lower seal carrier attached to the seal and bearing housing comprising a plurality of dynamic sealing elements that contact the mandrel.
ROTATING HEAD WITH BYPASS CIRCUIT
A rotating head assembly includes a body, an implement, a clamp assembly, a drive member, a hydraulic motor, and a bypass circuit. The drive member is threadingly connected to a first clamp member and a second clamp member. The hydraulic motor is connected to the drive member to cause the drive member to rotate in a selected direction. An inlet of the bypass circuit is in fluid communication with an inlet of the hydraulic motor to receive a portion of the pressurized hydraulic fluid passing to the hydraulic motor. An outlet of the bypass circuit is in fluid communication with the outlet of the hydraulic motor. At least one bypass valve is interposed between the inlet of the bypass circuit and the outlet of the bypass circuit. The bypass valve has an actuator positioned adjacent one of the first clamp member and the second clamp.
Pressure control device for use with a subterranean well
A pressure control device can include an outlet, an inlet secured to well equipment, and a swivel mechanism that permits relative rotation between the outlet and the inlet in an unlocked configuration and prevents relative rotation between the outlet and the inlet in a locked configuration. A lock device of the swivel mechanism can include circumferentially distributed teeth, and an engagement member that engages at least one of the teeth in the locked configuration. A method of operating a pressure control device can include securing an inlet of the pressure control device to well equipment, rotating an outlet of the pressure control device about a longitudinal axis of the inlet, locking a swivel mechanism of the pressure control device, thereby preventing rotation of the outlet relative to the inlet, and sealing off an annulus surrounding a tubular string extending through the inlet.
ROTATING CONTROL DEVICE WITH ACTIVE MATERIAL
A rotating control device (RCD) includes a housing defining a bore, a seal element supported within the housing and configured to form a seal against a tubular within the bore, and an active material within the housing. The active material is configured to deform upon application of a magnetic field or an electric field to thereby adjust the seal against the tubular.
ROTATING CONTROL DEVICE SYSTEM WITH RAMS
A rotating control device (RCD) system includes a housing having a bore, a first ram assembly supported in the housing, and a second ram assembly supported within the housing. The first ram assembly includes a first ram and a first packer coupled to the first ram, and the second ram assembly includes a second ram and a second packer coupled to the second ram. The RCD system also includes a bearing assembly configured to enable the first packer and the second packer to rotate relative to the first ram and the second ram.
APPARATUS AND METHOD RELATING TO MANAGED PRESSURE DRILLING
An actuatable sealing mechanism for sealing a fluid channel provided between two co-axially arranged tubular members having a central longitudinal axis. The actuatable actuable sealing mechanism comprises an elastomeric seal, an axially moveable actuating sleeve member (1400, 2400, 3020) and a radially moveable activating member. The activating member is configured to be moveable in a radial direction in use to translate the actuatable sealing mechanism between an unsealed state and a sealed state. When it is in the sealed state, the activating member axially compresses the elastomeric seal sufficiently to expand the elastomeric seal in the said radial direction to seal the fluid channel.
Modular bowl with swivel configuration
The modular bowl system provides a detachable bowl top and a modular bottom. The bowl top detaches to allow for easy repair of the bowl system should the bowl top become damaged. The detachable modular bottom securing to the bowl body for attaching the bowl body to the annular. The modular bottom provides a fixed attachment or a rotatable attachment of the bowl body with the annular. The modular bottom provides different sized bottom flanges for attachment to different sized annulars. The bowl body rotates for positioning of the bowl and the outlets and the inlet of the bowl for attachment to the flow line.
PRESSURE COMPENSATION PISTON FOR DYNAMIC SEAL PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL MINIMIZATION
Disclosed herein are embodiments of a pressure compensation piston and embodiments of rotary seal assemblies. In one embodiment, a pressure compensation piston for use with a rotary seal assembly includes a stepped piston having an opening extending there through for positioning the stepped piston about a rotatable shaft of a rotary seal assembly. In accordance with this embodiment, the pressure compensation piston further includes a rotary seal positioned along a radial surface of the opening for sealing the stepped piston relative to the rotatable shaft.
Detecting Drill Pipe Connection Joints via Magnetic Flux Leakage
An apparatus and methods for detecting drill pipe connection joints via magnetic flux leakage. An apparatus may include a magnet operable to magnetize a portion of a drill string extending out of a wellbore that extends into a subterranean formation below a drill rig and a sensor operable to facilitate magnetic flux measurements indicative of an amount of magnetic flux that leaked from the drill string along the magnetized portion of the drill string. The apparatus may further comprise a processing device having a processor and a memory storing a computer program code, wherein the processing device is operable to receive the magnetic flux measurements and detect a connection joint between adjacent drill pipes of the drill string based on the magnetic flux measurements.
