Compact downhole tool
A compact downhole tool, such as a frac plug, may include a single frustoconical member and a single set of slips. The slips may further include an internal button that engages with the frustoconical member. Various elements in the downhole tool may be dissolvable or degradable.

Wellbore logging
A wellbore assembly includes a cable and a wellbore tool. The wellbore tool is coupled to the downhole end of the cable. The wellbore tool includes a housing, one or more sensors, a packer, and a controller. The one or more sensors are coupled to the housing or to the cable or both. The sensors detect one or more parameters of the wellbore tool or the cable or both. The controller is coupled to the housing. The controller is electrically coupled to one or more sensors and is operationally coupled to the packer. The controller determines, with the wellbore tool parted from the cable and based on information received from the one or more sensors, an indication of the wellbore tool in free fall. The controller activates, based on the determination, the packer to expand the packer and set the wellbore tool on a wall of the wellbore.

RESETTABLE BACKUP AND SYSTEM
A backup including a gage ring having frustoconical surface and a groove in the frustoconical surface, a segment having a nose engaged with the groove, the segment having an overlap finger and a finger receptor, a wedge ring in contact with the segment, and a retainer member disposed to retain the segment. The downhole tool further comprising a second backup also adjacent the element and spaced from the first backup by the element. A borehole system including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string dispose within the borehole, a backup disposed within or as a part of the string. A borehole system including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string dispose within the borehole, a tool disposed within or as a part of the string.
COMBINED ACTUATION OF SLIPS AND PACKER SEALING ELEMENT
A technique facilitates actuation of a packer to a sealing and gripping position along a borehole. The packer includes a packer element structure mounted about a center structure. The packer element structure includes a sealing element mounted along an expandable base such that the sealing element may be radially expanded. Additionally, the packer includes an actuator member connected to a portion of the packer element structure via a release mechanism, e.g. a shear member. A plurality of slips may be located on the actuator member such that linear movement of the actuator member causes successive movement of the packer sealing element and then the slips in the radially outward direction. The packer may be constructed such that this sequential setting motion creates a jarring effect to ensure the slips securely bite into the surrounding wellbore surface, e.g. casing surface.

STORM PACKER ANCHOR AND SETTING TOOL
An anchor-packer assembly includes a packer having a slips assembly and a seal. The slips assembly and the seal are radially expandable so as to engage a surrounding tubular. The assembly also includes an anchor coupled to the packer. The anchor includes a slips assembly and is configured to transmit a first torque and a first axial force to the packer, to set the packer. The anchor is configured to be actuated from an anchor running position in which the slips assembly thereof is retracted, to an anchor set position, in which the slips assembly thereof is expanded radially outward, in response to a second torque and a second axial force, and the anchor in the anchor set position is configured to prevent an uphole-directed force on the packer from releasing the slips assembly of the packer from engagement with the surrounding tubular.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PREPARING A DOWNHOLE TOOL COMPONENT
The apparatus prepares a downhole tool component, particularly a slip for a plug that seals zones in a wellbore. The apparatus includes a casing holder, a cone insert, and a cap. There is a bottom center connector to hold the cone insert within the casing holder. There are a plurality of spacing bolts, and a top center connector to hold the slip within the space between the cap, the cone insert, and the casing holder. The top center connector can adjust distance between the slip and the cone insert so that the coating on the ramp surface of the slip has a uniform thickness. The invention includes the method of using the apparatus to prepare the slip with coating of uniform thickness to removably engage another component of the apparatus.
