SINGLE TRIP COMPLETION SYSTEM WITH OPEN HOLE GRAVEL PACK GO/STOP PUMPING

A method of completing a well in a single trip includes drilling a well-bore with drilling mud, miming a single trip completion string including an upper completion, a lower completion, and a packer between the upper and lower completions into the wellbore, displacing the wellbore to solids free fluid by opening or closing a circulation sliding sleeve disposed below the packer in the lower completion, opening the circulation sliding sleeve and spotting gravel slurry in a casing annulus, closing the circulation sliding sleeve and pumping the gravel slurry down the casing annulus into an open hole annulus while taking returns through a base pipe of a sand control assembly and production tubing of the single trip completion string, opening the circulation sliding sleeve, displacing the cased hole section to completion fluid, closing the circulation sliding sleeve, and setting the packer.

Completion system apparatus

A completion system apparatus having a body comprising a throughbore and lateral flow ports for providing access through a wall of the body and a valve arrangement including a first, uphole, valve assembly and a second, downhole, valve assembly. The valve arrangement is configurable between a first, open, configuration in which passage of fluid through the axial throughbore is permitted and a second, activated, configuration, the valve arrangement in the second, activated, configuration preventing passage of fluid in the first, downhole, direction so as to direct the fluid through the lateral flow ports while permitting the passage of fluid through the apparatus in a second, uphole, direction so as to permit return passage of the fluid through the apparatus. A bypass arrangement is configured to permit fluid travelling in the second direction to bypass the first valve assembly.

A system for use in a well includes a completion system having a screen assembly and an alternate path system disclosed along the screen assembly, the alternate path system including a transport tube and a packing tube placed in fluid communication at a manifold via a contoured crossover port within the manifold, the manifold being disposed along the screen assembly.

Shunt tube system for gravel packing operations

A shunt system for a wellbore includes a first set of tubes defining a first plurality of fluid paths and a second set of tubes defining a second plurality of fluid paths. The shunt system also includes a mixing chamber positioned between the first set of tubes and the second set of tubes to allow slurry from the first plurality of fluid paths to mix together prior to outputting the slurry to the second set of tubes. Further, the shunt system is positionable external to one or more sand screens.

Method for slim hole single trip remedial or plug and abandonment cement barrier

A new tool and methodology to work, in a single-trip system, and create conduits through the casing or tubing to access the annuli, circulate out the annuli contents, accurately deliver the cement required to create the subsequent barrier. The tool and system provide a cost effective way of plugging an oil and gas well in a single trip without the need to remove in-place production casing.

Sliding sleeve shunt tube isolation valve system and methodology

A technique facilitates performance of a gravel packing operation and desired zonal isolation. An apparatus, e.g. a sliding sleeve shunt tube isolation valve, may be deployed downhole and configured to facilitate a gravel packing operation and zonal isolation. By way of example, the apparatus contains a conduit which in an open position allows the flow of gravel pack slurry and in a closed position creates a barrier. In the closed position, upper and lower portions of the conduit are isolated from one another. When the apparatus is coupled with a packer and sand screens, the apparatus serves to create complete zonal isolation in, for example, an open hole alternate path system.

SLURRY OUTLET WITH SEAL PROTECTION SYSTEM

A slurry outlet system including a top sub having a seal, a closure sleeve positionable in an open position spaced from the top sub during a slurry pumping operation and a closed position wherein the closure sleeve sealingly interacts with the seal, a protector sleeve disposed to protect the seal and movable upon the closure sleeve becoming sufficiently close to the protector sleeve. A method for pressure sealingly closing a slurry outlet system including bringing a closure sleeve into proximity with a top sub of the slurry outlet system, displacing a protector sleeve, with the closure sleeve, off a seal of the top sub and simultaneously making sealing contact between the closure sleeve and the seal.

A gravel pack assembly for a borehole has first and second joints and a foil. The basepipes of the joints connect end-to-end, and both of the basepipes having filters for filtering fluid passage from a borehole into bores of the basepipes. Transport tubes are disposed along the first and second joint, and a jumper tube expands across the connected ends of the basepipes and connects the transport tubes together. The foil encloses an area across the connected ends. The foil has an external surface defining an annulus thereabout with the borehole. The foil has end rings abutting the filters of the joints. At least a section of the foil leaks fluid from the borehole to the area enclosed by the foil, and at least a filter portion of the assembly filters the leaked fluid from the area to at least one of the first and second bores.

USE OF ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT PARTICULATES IN MULTI-PATH GRAVEL PACKING OPERATIONS

A well penetrating a subterranean formation may be subjected to a multi-path gravel packing operation by using a fluid containing an ultra lightweight particulate having an apparent specific gravity less than or equal to 2.45 which is substantially neutrally buoyant in a carrier fluid. The fluid is flowed through one or more transport tubes which, with a gravel packing screen, constitute a screen assembly. A gravel pack is formed onto the screen of the screen assembly in-situ.
