Sustained release system for reservoir treatment and monitoring

Compositions containing a mixture of microcapsules and a bulk polymer, where the microcapsules have an oil field chemical contained within the microcapsules are provided. The microcapsules can be present in a variety of configurations. The microcapsules contain a core or a micro-matrix containing the oil field chemicals. The core or micro-matrix can be surrounded by one or more polymeric shells, where each shell contains at least one polymer that affects the release of the oil field chemical from the composition. The compositions provide for the sustained release of an oil field chemical into fluid in an oil field reservoir over long periods of time. Methods of making the compositions and articles containing the compositions are also provided. Further provided are methods of tracing the movement of fluid in a hydrocarbon reservoir using the compositions, and methods of providing for the sustained release of oil field chemicals.

It has been found that in many instances it is desirable to be able to determine where fluid in a well originates. To that end a tracer assembly is provided where the tracer assembly becomes a portion of the tubular that is run into the wellbore. Preferably the tracer assembly provides an exterior barrier whether permanent or temporary to fluid flow outside of the tubular and also provides an interior barrier to fluid flow as it passes through the inner bore of the tubular. The interior barrier is adjustable so that upon command it provides access from the interior of the tubular to at least a portion of a cavity within the tracer assembly. The cavity is provided with a tracer or tracers so that as fluid is allowed within the interior cavity portion of the tracer is eroded, dissolved, or otherwise mixed with the fluid and the tracer that is now mixed with the fluid is transported to the surface.

The invention is a method, a system, tools for use by the system, and an interpretation method for injecting and detecting tracers and conducting flow characterizing of a petroleum well. The method describes monitoring of travel time and slip velocity between two/three different phases (oil/water and possibly gas) in the well. The travel time and slip velocity are determined using an injection tool for injection of an over pressurized injection, thus simultaneous injection to all phases, of the partitioning tracers each of which would follow certain phase. The tracers are detected by a tracer detector downstream the injector. The slip velocity is obtained from the difference of travel time of two tracers which partition to two different phases.

Wax tracers

A method for monitoring precipitation of a wax component in a hydrocarbon fluid stream i) using a labelled wax introduced in a fluid transport system at one in-flow point and measuring its absolute or relative concentration at one out-flow point is provided. A method for generating a labelled wax, and the use of a labelled wax is also provided.

TAGGED CHEMICAL DIVERTER

The present disclosure provides methods for identifying chemical diverter material placed in a borehole region and provides chemical diverter material. In one embodiment, a method for detecting diverter material placed in a borehole region includes (a) obtaining a first data set by: emitting pulses of neutrons from the pulsed neutron source into the borehole region and detecting capture gamma rays resulting from nuclear reactions in the borehole region; (b) placing a diverter material comprising aqueous-swellable particles and a thermal neutron absorbing material into the borehole region; (c) obtaining a second data set by: emitting pulses of neutrons from the first pulsed neutron source or a second pulsed neutron source into the borehole region, and detecting capture gamma rays in the borehole; and (d) comparing the first data set and the second data set to determine the location of diverter material placed in the borehole region.

TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT CORRECTION IN PRODUCING WELLS

Methods for correcting temperatures measured in producing wells are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving formation fluid within a completion string in a well, wherein the formation fluid passes from a formation and radially into the completion string through at least one opening in the completion string. The method also includes measuring temperatures outside the completion string at multiple depths in the well at which the formation fluid passes from the formation and radially into the completion string. The temperatures measured outside the completion string at the multiple depths in the well are converted into axial temperatures inside the completion string at the multiple depths. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Logging method for locating watered zone in horizontal well with high watercut problem by isotope labeling

A logging device and method for locating a watered zone in a horizontal well with high watercut problem by isotope labeling is provided. The method successively includes the following operations: a. solidifying an isotope used in an isotope releasing device into a water-soluble carrier; b. connecting the isotope releasing device with a tubing and setting them to a horizontal segment of the well; c. dissolving the water-soluble carriers in the water at the bottom of the well to release the isotope, wherein the releasing rate is proportional to the flow rate of the water; d. starting a lift-up pump and beginning a production logging; and e. continuously performing -ray energy-spectrum analysis on produced water on the ground, so as to locate the watered zone of the horizontal well by the detected species and characteristic content of the isotope, thereby reduces operation risk, saves platform occupying time and logging cost.
