DRY POWDER INHALER

A dry powder inhaler includes an inhalation channel connected to a mouthpiece, a container for storing a powdered medicament, a de-agglomerator with a vortex chamber located at an end of the inhalation channel, a metering device including a shuttle having a dosing recess. The shuttle is movable between a filling position, in which the dosing recess is in alignment with an opening of the container, and an inhalation position, in which the dosing recess is in alignment with the vortex chamber. The opening of the container is elongated along a major axis and the dosing recess is elongated along a main axis and, when the shuttle is in the filling position, an edge of the opening of the container encloses the dosing recess.

The present disclosure describes a capsule inhaler. The capsule inhaler includes a main body including an inner cavity, a mouth section coupled to or integral with the main body and in fluid communication with the inner cavity, an actuator coupled to the main body, at least four longitudinally spaced apart nozzles residing within the main body positioned and configured to direct airflow into the inner cavity, and a cover coupled to the main body. The inner cavity is sized and configured to receive a capsule containing a dry powder formulation. One or more of the inner cavity, elongate member, and cover each are configured to engage with the capsule when inserted into the inner cavity and assist in separating the capsule to release the dry powder formulation into the inner cavity of the inhaler for inhalation by a subject. At least two of the nozzles are positioned and configured to direct airflow received from the at least one air intake port into separated segments of the capsule and at least another two of the nozzles are positioned and configured to direct bypass airflow received from the at least one air intake port into the inner cavity. Methods of using a capsule inhaler are also described herein.

A sealed container pod may include a chamber wall defining an internal volume within which a pre-processed herbal composition (e.g., cannabis) is located. The container pod may include filters for the vapor produced from the herbal composition. The container pod may also include a support member for holding and evenly distributing the herbal composition within the internal volume during vaporization. A vaporizer may be configured to obtain information regarding the contents of the herbal composition. The vaporizer may expose the herbal composition to an automated series of timed temperature adjustments specifically tailored for producing a desirable herbal vapor. The herbal vapor may be collected into a bag and/or canister for subsequent consumption.

An automated drug delivery and monitoring system for use on mechanically ventilated patients in the intensive care unit is presented. Medication in the form of respirable particles is transported through ventilator circuitry by a delivery unit. Multiple medications may be delivered into the gas flow of the ventilator, with each medication delivered in a defined dose for a frequency and interval as specified by an operator. The particles mixed into the gas flow of the ventilator are inhaled and ingested by the patent's lungs.
