Internal venting system for industrial machines

A mining shovel includes a boom and a transmission unit coupled to the boom. The transmission unit includes an outer housing, an internal motor housing disposed within the outer housing, and a venting system coupled to the outer housing to direct air through both the outer housing and the internal motor housing.

DIPPER HANDLE FOR ELECTRIC ROPE SHOVEL

In an electric rope shovel, the dipper handle must support significant weight, which presents the potential of fatigue cracking at interfaces between sections of the dipper handle. Accordingly, embodiments of a dipper handle are disclosed that reduce stress at the interface between the tube section and the intermediate section, to which the crowd control is coupled. In particular, spacing is provided between the interface and the crowd bores, to separate the interface from the stiffness of the coupling. In addition, the walls of the dipper handle may be thickened, proximate the interface, with beveled edges at the interface, to provide a stronger, more durable, weld.

A tooling system includes a dipper having a lip with a plurality of apertures, the apertures extending at least partially through the lip. The tooling system also includes a modular adapter configured to be inserted partially into one of the apertures along an axis of insertion. The adapter is configured to be releasably coupled to the lip. The adapter includes a first portion configured to extend into the aperture, and a second portion configured to extend out of the aperture. The tooling system also includes a locking system including a fastener configured to extend at least partially into the aperture and couple to the adapter to the lip.

Method and system for calculating the mass of material in an excavating machine bucket

An aspect of the present disclosure provides a method for calculating the mass of material in an excavating machine bucket including receiving, by a controller, data for determining the distance between at least one sensor mounted on the excavating machine and a target positioned on an arm of the excavating machine. Moreover, the method includes receiving torque data for a rotating hoist drive shaft in the excavating machine. The torque data is generated by a torque sensor positioned about the shaft. Furthermore, the method includes calculating frontend geometry of the excavating machine. The excavating machine includes at least one rope. Additionally, the method includes calculating a rope force in the at least one rope using the torque data and calculating the mass of material in the excavating machine bucket using the calculated frontend geometry and the rope force.
