INTERLOCKING CONSTRUCTION BLOCKS

The present invention is an improvement on a previous version of an interlocking building block system for use in constructing a building wall. The improvements introduced are radii corners and chamfered edges that allow for claddings to be attached to the wall by leaving space for mechanical screws to be secured between two blocks. Furthermore, the radii corners allowed for increased mechanical movement between two interlocking blocks, resulting in greater durability of the blocks. The improvement also include a corner block and an intersecting block which replace the need for using multiple blocks to create intersecting points or corners. Some blocks also contain an additional hollow cavity with channels to allow increased support members to be introduced between blocks, thus increasing the height of the walls that can be built using the block system.

A concrete block includes first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth planar faces. The first and second faces are generally parallel, and the distance between the first and second faces define a thickness of the first block; the third and fourth faces are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the first and second faces; the fifth face is perpendicular to the first, second, third, and fourth faces; the sixth face: extends perpendicular to the third face; extends toward the fourth face and ends at a non-planar remainder section; is parallel to the fifth face; is contained in a plane that intersects a plane containing the third face; and a distance from the intersection to the remainder section is at least as long as the thickness of the first block; and the remainder section extends between the sixth face and the fourth face and has a shape such that when a second block of the same construction as the first block has its remainder section engaged against the remainder section of first block, the remainder sections of the first and second blocks mate.

A concrete building block for masonry block walls is formed with first, second and third spaced rectangular face shells, where the second face shell is intermediate the first and third face shells. First and second cross webs connect the first and second face shells and a third cross web connects the second and third face shells. Insulating cores include end protrusions extending outwardly at the top edge thereof to fit into notches of the cross webs and include cutouts to accommodate mortar crumbs. The insulating cores further mate, creating an overlap that serves to (i) insulate against temperature transfer and (ii) provide a sound barrier. A unique block permits a combination of insulating inserts and solid grouting as well as a symmetric arrangement.

An interlocking blocking system includes a plurality of interlocking blocks. Each of the interlocking blocks includes a tapered opening, a protruding bottom, and a hollow tapered inside. The tapered opening is through a top surface of the interlocking block. The protruding bottom extends beyond a bottom surface of the interlocking block. The protruding bottom includes a tapered outer surface, a thickness, and an inner tapered surface. The hollow tapered inside extends from the tapered opening on the top surface and tapers into the inner tapered surface of the protruding bottom. The tapered outer surface of the protruding bottom is shaped and sized to match and fit inside of the tapered opening at the top surface of the interlocking block. Wherein the plurality of interlocking blocks are configured to be stacked onto one another.

Elements, methods, and systems are presented for facilitating construction of a tiered wall of elements most or all of which are oriented along the wall. Such elements may each have a front, for example, that extends between opposite sides of the wall. Such walls may include localized widening or graduated element weights, for example, engineered to allow advantageous pressure distributions over those of conventional retaining walls. Alternatively or additionally such elements may include frontal projections that stabilize a curvilinear wall by allowing an element to penetrate an adjacent element of the same tier in one or two dimensions.

A modular plastic building block for constructing a continuous wall of a structure is provided. The modular block has body that is rectangular or L-shaped depending on the position of the block within the desired structure. Each end of the modular block has a connecting member, either a male or female connecting member configured to connect to a respective female or male connecting member of an adjacent modular block. The modular block includes a pair of locking channels having at least one locking groove enabling a user to lock adjacent modular blocks vertically using a locking member. The modular plastic building block is designed for inexpensive building construction, while still providing efficient insulation and a sturdy base due to the density of plastic as the structure is mostly solid. A conduit may be provided to allow for electrical and plumbing connections within the blocks. In some instances, recycled plastic is used.
