Latches for gates and doors

A latch has a displaceable latching element in a housing for engagement with a separate striker arm to be latched behind an engagement shoulder of the latching element. The housing mounts a cylinder lock to receive a key from the front. A rotor is mounted on the rear of cylinder lock and rotation of the key rotation the rotor to drive a locking element to engage and lock the latching element. The rotor may also be axial displaceable against spring biasing responsive to a rear unit pushing element whereby unlocking from a rear cylinder lock may rotate the rotor to unlock and pushing causes the latching element to be displaced against its biasing to release the striker arm. Embodiments include a gravity biased and manually opened latch and a spring biased self-locking embodiment.

REFRIGERATOR DOOR-IN-DOOR LATCH

A door-in-door refrigerator includes a door having an inner door and an outer door. When the inner and outer doors are in open positions, food items stored in a main refrigerated compartment are accessible. When the inner and outer doors are in closed positions, the door seals the refrigerated compartment, and food items stored in the main refrigerated compartment are not accessible. When the inner door is in a closed position and the outer door is in an open position, food items stored in a storage structure coupled to the door are accessible. A latch includes a trigger that moves in a direction substantially parallel to a handle. Movement of the trigger shifts the latch between a latched position, in which pulling on the handle causes the inner and outer doors to open, and an unlatched position, in which pulling on the handle causes the outer door to open while the inner door remains closed.

A lock apparatus includes: a housing; an opening and closing door that is rotatable about a support shaft of the housing; an engaging member that is movable and provided on one of the housing and the door; an engaged member provided on the other of the housing and the door; an operation member that is movable and provided on the door; and a lock mechanism configured to restrict a movement of the engaging member. When the door is closed, the engaging member is engaged with the engaged member into an engaged state. In the engaged state, when the engaging member is moved in conjunction with a movement of the operation member, the engaged state is released to allow the door to be opened. In the engaged state, when the lock mechanism restricts the movement of the engaging member, the movement of the operation member is restricted.
