An elongated medical device includes an elongated tubular element with a series of flexibility enhancing features along a length of the elongated tubular element. Each flexibility enhancing feature may include a circumferential series of cuts. The cuts of one flexibility enhancing feature may be offset relative to the cuts of a longitudinally adjacent flexibility enhancing feature. The flexibility enhancing features may be grouped into two or more interleaved sets, with each set of circumferential cuts being offset relative to the next set of circumferential cuts. Methods for manufacturing such elongated medical devices are also disclosed.

FLEXIBLE AND STRETCH RESISTANT ELONGATE SHAFT

A method of manufacturing an elongate shaft for delivery of a medical device may include disposing a polymeric sheath having a lumen extending therethrough over a mandrel; sliding a proximal portion of the polymeric sheath into a lumen of a metallic tubular member; placing a polymeric tubular member over the distal portion of the polymeric sheath and a distal portion of the metallic tubular member; fixedly attaching a proximal coupler to a distal end of a longitudinal support filament; inserting a proximal end of the longitudinal support filament between the polymeric sheath and the polymeric tubular member to position the longitudinal support filament alongside the distal portion of the metallic tubular member and a distal portion of the polymeric sheath; and reflowing the polymeric tubular member to secure the longitudinal support filament relative to the polymeric sheath and the metallic tubular member.

SINGLE PIECE ARTICULATING JOINT

An articulating joint for an endoscopic device includes a body and a wire. The body includes a first link at a proximal end, a last link at a distal end, and interior links therebetween. The body is formed as a tube with gaps. Each interior link is connected on a proximal end to a further proximal link via first flexible members and on a distal end to a further distal link via second flexible members. Each interior link forms a proximal gap between the interior link and the further proximal link, a distal gap between the interior link and the further distal link, and a recess on both sides of the members permitting the members to bend and the interior links to rotate. The wire extends through the links such that applying tension to the wire causes at least one link to rotate toward another link and articulate the joint.

CATHETER TUBE

A catheter that has a catheter tube everting inside-out during the process of catheterization. The catheter tube has a plurality of longitudinal protrusions extending from the first end of the catheter tube through at least a portion of the catheter tube, and forming an angle of 0 degrees to 45 degrees with respect to the longitudinal axis of the catheter tube and facing radially inwards, and provides for dilating a circumference of the catheter tube upon everting the catheter tube inside-out from the first end of the catheter tube.

Adjustable stiffness catheter

The present invention relates to a catheter that has adjustable stiffness that enables a user to select the stiffness of at least one region of the catheter during insertion and navigation through a body lumen. A preferred embodiment of the invention works in combination with a guidewire to enable placement of the catheter at a position within the vascular system, for example, to enable treatment of a variety of medical conditions. The catheter can include segments that undergo relative movement in response to actuation by the user to adjust the flexibility of the at least one region, preferably located at or near the distal end of the catheter.

BENDABLE TUBE WITH IMPROVED ELASTIC HINGE

A tube like member having a first flexible portion comprising a first and a second circumferential slits, the first circumferential slit is arranged opposite to the second circumferential slit and comprises a first end and a second end, the second circumferential slit comprises a third end and a fourth end, wherein the first end and the third end are arranged such that a first bridge is provided between said first and second circumferential slits characterized in that the first flexible portion comprises a first longitudinal slit arranged longitudinally along the tube like member and a second longitudinal slit arranged longitudinally along the tube like member, wherein the first circumferential slit is communicatively connected to the first longitudinal slit, wherein the second circumferential slit is communicatively connected to the second longitudinal slit, the first longitudinal slit and second longitudinal slit being arranged to define longitudinal sides of the first bridge.

A guidewire device comprising an elongated outer member having an outer surface and an interior surface forming a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end, wherein an outer diameter of said distal end is larger than an outer diameter of said proximal end; and an inner member disposed within a portion of said lumen, and embodiments thereof.

Curved Catheter And Methods For Making Same

A pre-curved catheter tube of a catheter assembly or other elongate medical device and methods for forming such a device using a heating procedure is disclosed. Pre-curving of the catheter tube is desirable to impart to the catheter assembly a desired positional configuration when the catheter assembly is inserted into a patient. The heating procedure may include heat sterilization procedures commonly used to sterilize medical devices prior to use. One method for curving a catheter tube of a catheter assembly includes constraining the catheter tube into a curved configuration using the tube constraint, heating the catheter tube in the curved configuration for a predetermined time at a predetermined temperature, and releasing the catheter tube from the tube constraint after the heating is complete.
