Two-door cage trap with over-center set mechanism

A cage-type animal trap with two opposed animal access openings that can operate in a one-door-opening configuration or a two-door-opening configuration. The trap has a set mechanism for holding one or both doors open to allow access through the corresponding trap access openings. The set mechanism includes a set lever that is movable from a set position to a tripped position and that is coupled to the doors of the trap by an actuating member. Upon actuation, the set lever moves from the set to the tripped position to allow movement of the actuating member which enables one of the doors to move from an opened position to a closed position when the trap is operating in a one-door-opening configuration, and both of the doors to move from the opened position to the closed position when the trap is operating in the two-door-opening configuration.

A hinge assembly that includes a closure member such as a door and a torsion bar that extends between hinge assemblies about which the door pivots so that the torsion bar becomes twisted when the door is moved between a closed position and an open position. The twisting of the torsion bar creates potential energy in the torsion which can be used to open or close the door. A force adjustment mechanism is provided which releases built-up potential energy in the torsion bar in a controlled manner so as to close open the door in a controlled manner.

INSERT MOLDED TORSION BAR HINGE

One aspect is an insert molded torsion bar hinge including a cylindrical metal torsion bar with a main bar body, a portion of which extends along a torsion bar axis, a first contoured bar end and a second contoured bar end on opposite ends of the main bar body. A first hinged element of molded plastic and with a first knuckle, is molded directly over and encompasses the first contoured bar end such that the first contoured bar end is fixed within and not rotatable relative to the first hinged element. The first knuckle is molded directly over and encompassing a portion of the main bar body. A second hinged element of molded plastic and with a second knuckle is molded directly over and encompasses the second contoured bar end such that the second contoured bar end is fixed within and not rotatable relative to the second hinged element. The second knuckle is molded directly over and encompassing a portion of the main bar body. The first and second hinged elements rotate and produce a torsional spring torque.

A torsion bar assembly including a number of torsion bars is disclosed. The torsion bar assembly is configured to provide an assistive biasing force to hinged components of an electronic device. The loading of the torsion bar assembly can include combined bending and torsional loading of the individual torsion bars. The torsion bar assembly can be used in conjunction with a hinge assembly, such that the torsion bars add and/or subtract a desired amount of resistance to the hinge assembly. The hinge assembly can include a hollow bore region, through which the torsion bar assembly can pass.
