Blood control catheter with antimicrobial needle lube
09789280 · 2017-10-17 · ·

An antimicrobial lubricant applied to an outer surface of an introducer needle as part of a catheter assembly device. The catheter assembly device further includes a blood control septum having a slit through which the introducer needle is threaded. The antimicrobial lubricant is squeegeed, or removed from the outer surface of the introducer needle as the needle is removed from the slit following catheterization. The removed antimicrobial lubricant forms a deposit on the septum at a location proximate to the slit, thereby preventing colonization and growth of pathogens on the septum and other adjacent components and surfaces of the catheter assembly device.

Lubricious extruded medical tubing

A medical tube having improved lubricity is disclosed. The medical tube is produced by extruding a polymer material blended with a lubricity enhancing additive through a resilient die. The polymer material can be medical-grade high-density polyethylene, and the lubricity enhancing additive can be a silicone-based or alloy-based material. The medical tube can include one or more internal elongated protuberances so as to reduce the internal surface area of the medical tube available to generate friction on a guide wire inserted or withdrawn through the medical tube.

CATHETER TUBE

A catheter that has a catheter tube everting inside-out during the process of catheterization is disclosed. The catheter tube has a plurality of longitudinal protrusions extending from the first end of the catheter tube through at least a portion of the catheter tube, and forming an angle of 0 degrees to 45 degrees with respect to the longitudinal axis of the catheter tube and facing radially inwards, and provides for dilating a circumference of the catheter tube upon everting the catheter tube inside-out from the first end of the catheter tube.

A method for manufacturing a medical instrument having a lubricating layer (coating layer) that exhibits excellent durability (particularly, sliding durability) is provided. The method for manufacturing a medical instrument is a method for manufacturing a medical instrument that includes a base layer and a lubricating layer carried on at least a portion of the base layer. The method includes applying a solution including a block copolymer having a structural unit derived from a reactive monomer having an epoxy group and a structural unit derived from a hydrophilic monomer, a choline derivative, and a solvent, on the base layer.

Multilumen Body for a Medical Device

A multilumen body for a medical device, comprising a first tubular element and a second tubular element, which is arranged in the first tubular element and which is in contact with the first tubular element at least in sections and movable relative to the first tubular element, an inner surface of the first tubular element having a first profile and/or an outer surface of the second tubular element having a second profile so that the contact surface between the first tubular element and the second tubular element is smaller than without the first profile and/or without the second profile. The multilumen body is characterized in that the first profile and/or the second profile include a plurality of alternating elevations and depressions, wherein a maximum distance between two neighboring elevations is 100 μm.

Method of making a ready-to-use catheter assembly and a ready-to-use catheter assembly

A method of making a ready-to-use catheter assembly is provided, which can be immediately used by a patient. The ready-to-use catheter assembly ensures that the catheter does not suffer from a loss of quality during its shelf life and a wetting medium are provided. The method comprises: placing a catheter with an inactivated hydrophilic outer surface at least along its insertable length and a wetting medium in a catheter package; treating the catheter package with the catheter and the wetting medium with electro-magnetic and/or particle radiation while at least initially the hydrophilic outer surface at least along the insertable length of the catheter remains inactivated; and activating the hydrophilic outer surface at least along the insertable length of the catheter with the wetting medium during and/or after the radiation treatment and wherein the wetting medium decreases in viscosity when submitted to electro-magnetic and/or particle radiation.

CATHETER WITH TEXTURED SURFACE

A catheter can have a textured outer body surface with protrusions and/or indentations that can reduce friction between the outer body surface and vascular anatomy or an inner lumen of another catheter in contact with the outer body surface. The catheter can include protrusions and/or indentations on an inner lumen surface that can reduce friction between the inner lumen surface and an outer body surface of another catheter within the example catheter. The protrusions can be filled with a lubricant or vasodilating drug, and the protrusions can be configured to break to release the fluid in response to forces on the protrusion during navigation through vascular anatomy and/or an inner lumen of another catheter. The catheter can include a metallic tubular reinforcing layer with openings through which the protrusions and/or indentations extend and/or protrusions and/or indentations shaped into the reinforcing layer.

Steerable sheath
