A cutting element may have a substrate; and an ultrahard material layer having a substantially planar upper surface disposed on an upper surface of the substrate; wherein at least a portion of the side surface between the upper surface of the substrate and a lower end of the substrate form at least one conic surface, wherein the at least one conic surface extends a height relative to the total height of the substrate and ultrahard material layer ranging from about 1:10 to 9:10, and wherein the substrate comprises a substantially planar lower surface. The cutting elements may also be rotatable cutting elements at least partially surrounded by outer support elements.

MULTI-CHAMFER CUTTING ELEMENTS HAVING A SHAPED CUTTING FACE AND EARTH-BORING TOOLS INCLUDING SUCH CUTTING ELEMENTS

A cutting element for an earth-boring tool includes a substrate and volume of superabrasive material positioned on the substrate. The volume of superabrasive material includes a cutting face having at least one recess extending into the volume of superabrasive material and/or at least one protrusion extending outward from the volume of superabrasive material. The volume of superabrasive material includes a first chamfer surface having a peripheral edge and a radially innermost edge. The peripheral edge of the first chamfer surface is located proximate a cutting edge of the volume of superabrasive material. A radial width of the first chamfer surface is between about 0.002 inch and about 0.045 inch. The volume of superabrasive material also includes a second chamfer surface having a peripheral edge and a radially innermost edge. The peripheral edge of the second chamfer surface is located adjacent the radially innermost edge of the first chamfer surface.

One cutter includes a substrate defining a slot therein and being configured to be coupled to a middle portion of a blade of the drill bit, and a cutting element secured within the slot and having at least a portion of the cutting element extending out of the slot, the cutting element further having a first face and a second face, wherein portions of the first and second faces are supported by the substrate within the slot.

A polycrystalline diamond (PCD) composite compact element 100 comprising a substrate 130, a PCD structure 120 bonded to the substrate 130, and a bond material in the form of a bond layer 140 bonding the PCD structure 120 to the substrate 130; the PCD structure 120 being thermally stable and having a mean Young's modulus of at least about 800 GPa, the PCD structure 120 having an interstitial mean free path of at least about 0.05 microns and at most about 1.5 microns; the standard deviation of the mean free path being at least about 0.05 microns and at most about 1.5 microns. Embodiments of the PCD composite compact element may be for a tool for cutting, milling, grinding, drilling, earth boring, rock drilling or other abrasive applications, such as the cutting and machining of metal.
