High strength balloon

A balloon catheter includes a balloon which is both of high strength and radiopaque. The balloon includes an outer strengthened layer which includes a strengthening element at least partially embedded within the layer. Concentrically within the strengthened layer there is a radiopaque layer which includes a high concentration of radiopaque material distributed in the radiopaque layer. The strengthened layer acts as a support to the radiopaque layer which is otherwise be unable to withstand the pressure to which the balloon is normally inflated for deployment and in the course of a medical procedure. The structure provides a high strength radiopaque balloon with a relatively thin balloon wall optimizing balloon flexibility and wrappability. There is also disclosed a method of making a balloon which uses an internal support layer in a raw tubing which is then removed following formation of a balloon.

AMPLATZ SHEATH AND DILATION SYSTEM
20230330394 · 2023-10-19 · ·

An Amplatz sheath for positioning inside a natural or artificially created bodily cavity in a human or animal has a distal end toward the body and a proximal end away from the body, with at least one lumen being formed between the distal end and the proximal end. At least in a region at the proximal end, the Amplatz sheath is transparent or translucent and, in this region, has at least one marking for determining the position of the Amplatz sheath in relation to a catheter that can be received in the lumen. The Amplatz sheath can be used with a balloon catheter in a dilation system.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL (3D) HERNIA PLUG DEVICE AND A METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THEREOF

Various embodiments are disclosed herein that generally relate to a three-dimensional (3D) hernia plug device and a method of manufacturing thereof. In at least one embodiment, there is disclosed a three-dimensional (3D) hernia plug, comprising: a waist portion extending, along a longitudinal extension axis, between a first waist end and a second waist end; one or more first overhangs coupled to the first waist end; and one or more second overhangs coupled to the second waist end, wherein the hernia plug is configured to translate between a pre-activation state and a post-activation state.

CONFORMABLE BALLOON DEVICES AND METHODS

The present disclosure is directed toward a semi-compliant to non-compliant, conformable balloon useful in medical applications. Conformable balloons of the present disclosure exhibit a low straightening force when in a curved configuration and at inflation pressures greater than 4 atm. Balloons of the present disclosure are constructed of material that can compress along an inner length when the balloon is in a curved configuration. In further embodiments, balloons of the present disclosure can be constructed of material that sufficiently elongates along an outer arc when the balloon is in a curved configuration. As a result, medical balloons, in accordance with the present disclosure, when inflated in a curved configuration, exhibit kink-free configurations and do not cause a significant degree of vessel straightening.

AIRWAY MANAGEMENT DEVICE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE

An airway management device comprising a body having a proximal end for receiving an oxygen supply tube and an distal end for insertion into a trachea of a patient; said body including a linear portion adjacent to the proximal end and a curved portion adjacent to the distal end; said body including an external shell and having a first bore through said shell for receiving the oxygen supply tube; wherein flexural strength for said airway management device is provided by said shell.

COATING FOR INTRALUMINAL EXPANDABLE CATHETER PROVIDING CONTACT TRANSFER OF DRUG MICRO-RESERVOIRS

A coating for an expandable portion of a catheter comprising a lipophilic matrix and a plurality of micro-reservoirs dispersed in the lipophilic matrix is disclosed. The plurality of micro-reservoirs comprises an active agent. A coating formulation and a method for forming the coating are also disclosed. A catheter comprising the coating on the expandable portion and a method for treating a condition are also provided.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MICROPATTERNING OBJECTS

Implanted medical devices need a mechanism of immobilization to surrounding tissues, which minimizes tissue damage while providing reliable long-term anchoring. This disclosure relates to techniques for patterning arbitrarily shaped 3D objects and to patterned balloon devices having micro- or nano-patterning on an outer surface of an inflatable balloon. The external pattern can provide enhanced friction and anchoring in an aqueous environment. Examples of these types of patterns are hexagonal arrays inspired by tree frogs, corrugated patterns, and microneedle patterns. The patterned balloon devices can be disposed between an implant and surrounding tissues to facilitate anchoring of the implant.

System and method for plaque serration
11529501 · 2022-12-20 · ·

A device and method for intravascular treatment of atherosclerotic plaque prior to balloon angioplasty which microperforates the plaque with small sharp spikes acting as serrations for forming cleavage lines or planes in the plaque. The spikes may also be used to transport medication into the plaque. The plaque preparation treatment enables subsequent angioplasty to be performed at low balloon pressures of about 4 atmospheres or less, reduces dissections, and avoids injury to the arterial wall. The subsequent angioplasty may be performed with a drug-eluting balloon (DEB) or drug-coated balloon (DCB). The pre-angioplasty perforation procedure enables more drug to be absorbed during DEB or DCB angioplasty, and makes the need for a stent less likely. Alternatively, any local incidence of plaque dissection after balloon angioplasty may be treated by applying a thin, ring-shaped tack at the dissection site only, rather than applying a stent over the overall plaque site.

WEDGE DISSECTORS FOR A MEDICAL BALLOON
20220323727 · 2022-10-13 ·

A cage can be positioned around a medical balloon, such as an angioplasty balloon, to assist in a medical procedure. The cage can include a plurality of strips, each extending between a set of rings including first and second rings. As the balloon expands, the first and second rings move closer together and allow the strips to expand outward. The cage may have wedge dissectors on the strips.

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR JOINT DISTRACTION

A method of treating a patient's joint having opposing joint surfaces includes providing an elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end and an expandable member near the distal end. The expandable member is positioned in the joint between the joint surfaces and expanded so as to separate the joint surfaces away from one another into a distracted position. The joint is manipulated while in the distracted position so that the joint is distracted and in flexion. A diagnostic or therapeutic procedure is then performed on the joint while maintaining the joint in the flexed and distracted position.
