Downhole conformable screen system and method of making a conformable screen for downhole use
A system of a downhole conformable screen system including a tubular, and a screen defined by a plurality of screen segments positioned radially outward of the tubular, each of the plurality of screen segments being positioned perimetrically between two other of the screen segments, the screen being configured to expand radially to engage with an inner surface of a wellbore after the tubular and screen have been positioned within the wellbore. A method of making a conformable screen for downhole use including forming a plurality of screen segments out of a porous foam, and attaching the plurality of screen segments to a tubular to form a screen around the tubular.
SCREEN APPARATUS AND METHOD
A downhole expandable apparatus for restricting ingress of solids in a wellbore comprises a base pipe, a fluid permeable expandable foam material mounted on the base pipe configurable between a non-expanded and an expanded configuration, and a retractable sleeve. The retractable sleeve is moveable between a first configuration in which the retractable sleeve retains the expandable foam material in the non-expanded configuration, and a second configuration in which the retractable sleeve is retracted to provide a free portion of the expandable foam material. The expandable foam material is permitted to radially expand towards the expanded configuration and into engagement with a surface in the wellbore.
Methods for supporting wellbore formations with expandable structures
A method to provide support within a wellbore includes underreaming a section of the wellbore at a depth spanning a layer of an unstable formation. The method also includes deploying a bistable structure within the wellbore at the depth of the layer of the unstable formation. Additionally, the method includes actuating an expandable packer within the bistable structure to expand the bistable structure in a radially outward direction from a longitudinal axis of the bistable structure. The bistable structure is in contact with walls of the underreamed section of the wellbore upon expanding in the radially outward direction.
CONFORMABLE SAND SCREEN
A sand control tool including a base pipe having a radial port through a wall thereof, a plurality of volume increasing members disposed upon the base pipe, a filtration segment disposed upon the base pipe and disposed between and in physical contact with ones of the plurality of members, and a cover disposed radially outwardly upon the plurality of members and plurality of segments. An embodiment of a sand control tool including a base pipe having a radial port through a wall thereof, a volume increasing member helically disposed upon the base pipe, a filtration segment helically disposed upon the base pipe adjacent the member, and a cover disposed radially outwardly upon the member and segment.
Gravel pack flow control using swellable metallic material
A gravel pack flow path used to flow slurry fluids during a gravel pack phase may be closed or at least limited with a swellable metallic material prior to a production phase. An example apparatus may include a base pipe, a screen disposed about the base pipe, an inflow control device having an ICD flow path in fluid communication with an outer annulus between the screen and base pipe. The gravel pack flow path defined in part by perforations in a base pipe or by a secondary housing. A swellable metallic material is activated to close the gravel pack flow path in response to a reactive fluid.
EXPANDABLE LINER HANGER SYSTEM AND METHODOLOGY
A technique facilitates setting of a liner hanger in a casing or within other tubular structures via a setting tool. The liner hanger may be constructed with an expandable hanger body between fixed ends. The expandable hanger body is formed from a material, e.g. metal, sufficiently ductile to undergo plastic deformation as it is expanded into engagement with a surrounding casing or other tubing. The expandable hanger body is expanded via fluid delivered under high pressure by the setting tool. The setting tool has a pressure booster to achieve the desired high pressure. The pressure booster may be in the form of a multi-diameter piston constructed to establish the desired high pressure during a single stroke.

A swellable metallic material is activated to close the gravel pack flow path in response to a reactive fluid.
SWELLABLE DEVICES BASED ON RENEWABLE RAW MATERIALS AND METHODS OF USING IN WELLBORES
An apparatus includes an expandable and porous filtration member having a body constructed of a composite containing a polymer hydrogel, a rubber binder, and a filler. The body has a first volume and expandable to a second volume upon contacting with a fluid comprising water.
Liner hanger with nano-reinforced seals
A downhole expandable liner hanger positioned in a subterranean wellbore. The liner hanger may comprise a liner and an expansion element. The expansion element may comprise one or more seal elements bonded to the expansion element in an open-ended containment system, wherein each of the one or more seal elements is a nanoreinforced rubber element comprising a polymer host and a plurality of nanostructures.
Well screen assembly with extending screen
A well screen assembly residing in a well bore has a base pipe and a filtration screen carried on the base pipe. The screen is radially extended with force from fluid while maintaining the base pipe radially unextended.
