20200030594 · 2020-01-30 ·

A connector system for medical fluid administration has a female connection member, which can act as an access port for a container of medical fluid, and a male connection member, for accessing the container of medical fluid. The female connection member defines a sheath for receiving a portion of the male connection member and this sheath is spanned at one end by a septum, which acts to close the container of medical fluid. A lumen is defined through the male connection member to allow passage of fluid therethrough. The septum has a central region and a peripheral region, the central region being of substantially greater thickness than the peripheral region. The male connection member comprises means for rupturing the peripheral region of the septum when it is received in the female connection member to form a connection.

A connector (1) is constituted by a first member (10) and a second member (40). The first member (10) has a male connecting portion (11) at a first end and a screwing structure (26) at a second end. The male connecting portion (11) is inserted into a female connecting portion (41) of the second member (40). A first engagement structure (15) is provided on the first member (10), and a second engagement structure (45) is provided on the second member (40) so as to be able to abut against the first engagement structure (15) in the circumferential direction. When a rotational force of a predetermined value or greater is applied to the first member (10) in a tightening direction (R1) of the screwing structure (26), one of the first engagement structure (15) and the second engagement structure (45) is plastically deformed by the other, so that the first member (10) is then rotatable in both forward and reverse directions relative to the second member (40).

Fluid access devices and methods

Fluid access devices include a machine-side hydraulic circuit and a patient-side hydraulic circuit, and are configurable between a connected state and at least one disconnected state. In the connected state, fluid flows between the machine-side hydraulic circuit and the patient-side hydraulic circuit. In the disconnected state, fluid does not flow between the machine-side hydraulic circuit and the patient-side hydraulic circuit. In some disconnected states, fluid recirculates through at least one of the machine-side hydraulic circuit or the patient-side hydraulic circuit in the disconnected state.

Single-use disconnect fluid couplings

Some fluid coupling devices described herein are configured for use in fluid systems for purposes of providing a single-use, disconnection functionality that can substantially limit fluid spillage when being disconnected. In some embodiments, the coupling portions cannot be functionally reconnected to each other after being disconnected from each other.

Anti-free-flow valve
11890451 · 2024-02-06 · ·

An apparatus for delivering a fluid to a subject through infusion tubing (22). The apparatus includes a tube cassette (20) for receiving the infusion tubing. The tube cassette has an anti-free-flow valve (26) configured to (i) occlude the infusion tubing, and (ii) be actuated by a force external to the tube cassette to terminate the occlusion of the infusion tubing. The tube cassette is configured to be removably coupled to a pump (24). The pump is configured to, as part of a pumping cycle for delivering the fluid to the subject, repeatedly (a) actuate the anti-free-flow valve to terminate the occlusion of the infusion tubing, and subsequently (b) release the anti-free-flow valve to occlude the infusion tubing. Other applications are also described.

A surgical tool for use with a robotic system that includes a tool drive assembly that is operatively coupled to a control unit of the robotic system that is operable by inputs from an operator and is configured to robotically-generate output motions. A drive system is configured to interface with a corresponding portion of the tool drive assembly for receiving the robotically-generated output motions and applying the output motions to a drive shaft assembly which is configured to apply control motions to a surgical end effector operably coupled thereto. A manually-actuatable control system operably interfaces with the drive shaft assembly to facilitate the selective application of manually-generated control motions to the drive shaft assembly.

PEEL-AWAY SHEATH ASSEMBLY

Systems and methods for a multi-layered peel-away sheath assembly for insertion of a blood pump including a sheath hub and a sheath body having a proximal end that is connected to the sheath hub, and a distal end. The sheath body comprises multiple layers including a reinforcing layer. The reinforcing layer improves flexibility and kink resistance of the assembly The reinforcing layer can comprise LCP, PEBAX, stainless steel, Nitinol, or Kevlar. The reinforcing layer may be a laser-cut hypotube or a braided or coiled filament. The first layer material and the third layer material are thermoplastics, including PEBAX or TPU. The reinforcing layer has at least one discontinuity, which is aligned with peel-away lines in the sheath body to allow an operator to peel-away the assembly. The peel-away lines are formed of inner, outer notches, or both. The sheath hub also includes a discontinuity to allow the sheath hub to peel-away.

Fluid connector systems including first and second connector portions couplable together to form a fluid pathway therethrough, and can resist fluid flow through the connector when the connector portions are separated from each other. A connector portion can include a connector housing, a luer portion, and a deformable valve member. The deformable valve member is disposed within the connector housing and includes a spherical portion extending partially through a valve opening of the connector housing. The spherical portion defines a slit, and the deformable valve member is configured to selectively prevent fluid flow from the housing volume through the valve opening and to deform to expand the slit and permit fluid flow from the housing volume through the valve opening.
