Blood Collection Device and Related Systems and Methods
A blood collection device to reduce hemolysis in a peripheral intravenous catheter system may include a distal end. The distal end of the blood collection device may include a male luer adapter, which may include a distal opening. The blood collection device may include a cannula in fluid communication with the male luer adapter. The cannula may include a distal end and a sharp proximal tip. The blood collection device may include an elongated neck disposed between the male luer adapter and the sharp proximal tip. The blood collection device may include a fluid pathway extending from the distal opening through the sharp proximal tip. A diameter of the fluid pathway may be constant. An entire length of the fluid pathway is represented by L, and the diameter of the fluid pathway is represented by D. D.sup.4/L may be equal to or less than a predetermined value.
Clip for urinary drainage system
A clip retains tapered connector members which joining tubing sections of a medical fluid drainage system, such as a urinary collection system. The clip has first and second ends configured to bear against external flanges projecting from the tapered connector members. A central body of the clip applies a controllable compression force to the first and second ends for urging the connector members together. The first and second ends include sub-fingers for snapping onto a respective one of the tapered connector members.
Flexible multi-use container, system and method of manufacture
The disclosed embodiments provide a valve structure that is hermetically sealed to a lower flange formed on an IV bag to form a one-way outlet accessible with a luer tip syringe that does not have a needle. The valve structure can include a piston in combination with a disc or disc valve. The piston can have a slit septum or opening allowing access to an interior surface of the piston. The disc valve is typically in a closed position that prevents injections or other incursions into the bag, thus preserving the integrity and sterility of the bag contents.
Multifunction cable for use with different signal inputs
A cable comprises a circuit, a switching element and an input connection for engaging an output connection of a sensor, the switching element configured to selectively enable the circuit of the cable assembly to process an accepted output of at least one of at least two sensors providing differing acceptable outputs and to provide a signal output corresponding to the accepted sensor output for processing by a monitor. A sensor includes an initiation element structured to cause a switching element associated with an input connection of the cable to change a mode of operation of the switching element to selectively enable the circuit to process an output of the sensor accepted by the cable and to provide a signal output corresponding to the accepted sensor output. A system comprises a monitor and the cable including the circuit and the switching element. Methods of operation are also disclosed.
RESUSCITATION DOSING KIT
A kit for resuscitating a subject, particularly a neonatal patient, is described. In an embodiment, the kit includes a syringe having a tip defining a male Luer taper fitting, and an adaptor defining a first end portion shaped to couple with the male Luer taper fitting and a second end portion shaped to cooperatively couple with an opening of an endotracheal tube.
Coupling for medical fluids
A coupling apparatus includes a first component having a first non-mechanical valve, a second component having a second non-mechanical valve, and a third component having a first end for coupling with the first valve and a second end for coupling with the second valve. The third component has an elongated bore such that when the first end is coupled to the first valve and the second end is coupled to the second valve, a passageway is defined therethrough. The coupling apparatus includes a breakaway portion disposed between the third component and the second component and the first and second valves automatically close when the second and third components are separated from one another.
Intravenous catheter with pressure activated valve
The anti-back-flow devices and methods prevent fluid from leaking proximally from a catheter, but allow ready access to the catheter using any male luer device. The devices include proximal surfaces that urge open a valve in response to force from a male luer tip. The valves are associated a female luer hub and adapted to function with standard and typical non-standard male luer fittings.
Bi-directional cannula feature capture mechanism
A bi-directional cannula feature capture mechanism is described herein. Generally, the capture mechanism comprises an inner housing, an outer housing, and a cannula. The inner housing comprises a proximal and a distal cannula feature mating component. The outer housing is adapted to slidably receive the inner housing in a proximal direction. Additionally, the cannula extends through the inner housing and the cannula's feature has a proximal engagement and a distal engagement. The proximal and distal engagements are respectively configured to irreversibly engage the proximal and distal cannula feature mating components when the cannula tip is moved into a shielded position.
Peripheral intravenous catheters having flow diverting features
PIVCs with extension sets can include one or more flow diverting features for maximizing the amount of flushing that occurs within the interior of the catheter adapter. These flow diverting features can therefore minimize the amount of residual blood, medicament, or other fluid that may exist within the catheter adapter after the PIVC has been flushed via the extension set. The flow diverting features may be in the form of structural modifications to the side port of the extension set, separate components that are contained within the side port or catheter adapter, integrated components within the side port or catheter adapter, other features or some combination of any of these features.
MEDICAL COUPLING AND MEDICAL SYSTEM COMPRISING MEDICAL COUPLING
A coupling for fluid-tight connection of two fluid-guiding portions in medical applications. The coupling is an axially lockable quick-connect coupling and comprises a male coupling portion having a continuous first passage and a female coupling portion adapted to be slipped over the male coupling portion and having a continuous second passage. A preferably circumferential radial sealing is provided on the outer periphery of the male coupling portion and/or on the inner periphery of the female coupling portion.
