VARIABLE VOLUME CHAMBER DEVICE
20200325895 · 2020-10-15 · ·

A variable volume chamber device is disclosed. The chambers may be defined by the space between four pivotally connected vanes contained within a housing. The vanes may be connected so as to create a sealed interior chamber that may be used as a combustion chamber in an internal combustion engine, or as a pumping chamber in a pump or compressor. The four-vane assembly may also form additional variable volume chambers between the vanes and a surrounding structure. The plurality of variable volume chambers may be interconnected to progressively act on a working fluid.

A shaft extending along a longitudinal axis has fluid channels that increase and decrease pressure in chambers formed between the interior ends of curved pistons and adjacent closed ends of curved chambers within which the pistons reciprocate as the chamber pressure increases and decreases. The chambers and pistons are in separate cylinder block segments extending outward from opposing sides of the shaft. Each segment may have two sides extending along radial planes and joined by a curved outer surface. Pistons may be provided in pairs and have an interior piston end of each piston in a different cavity in different segments. Exterior ends of each piston in a pair of pistons are connected to a piston connector that extends inwardly from a housing so the housing rotates with the pistons.

A scroll-type displacement machine, e.g. scroll compressor, has fixed and orbiting scrolls and an Oldham ring to prevent relative rotation between scrolls. A drive module positioned between the orbiting scroll and drive shaft incorporates an eccentric drive system and first and second counterweights for dynamic balancing. The motor, motor bearings, and motor shaft (i.e., drive shaft) are packaged as a separate, modular unit (e.g. off-the-shelf motor) that attaches to the compressor frame. The machine is configured as a high-side machine with a low-pressure port at a radial outer portion of the fixed scroll and a high-pressure port or discharge port located in the floor of the orbiting scroll at its axis, with high pressure flow passing over and around the eccentric drive bearing and drive mechanism. The Oldham ring is distributed on a lateral or radial plane of the scroll pair with a portion surrounding a portion of the fixed scroll and another portion surrounding a portion of the orbiting scroll. The ring may be formed as four arcuate members arranged on two levels, to occupy otherwise unused space in the scroll-type machine.

A compressor includes a rotation shaft, a drive unit, and a compression unit. The compression unit includes a fixed scroll, an orbiting scroll, a main frame that is disposed on the fixed scroll, and an Oldham's ring coupled to the orbiting scroll and the main frame and configured to restrict rotation of the orbiting scroll. The Oldham's ring includes a ring body disposed between the orbiting scroll and the main frame, keys that protrude from the ring body that are each coupled to the orbiting scroll or the main frame, and caps that are inserted into the main frame and that each have (i) a coupling hole that receives a key among the keys and (ii) a machined portion that faces the coupling hole and that is spaced apart from at least a portion of an outer surface of the key.

Scroll compressor with an orbital disc lubrication system

The scroll compressor (1) includes a fixed scroll (7); an orbiting scroll (8); a drive shaft (16); a support arrangement (5) including a thrust bearing surface (9) on which is slidably mounted the orbiting scroll (8); a rotation preventing device configured to prevent rotation of the orbiting scroll (8) with respect to the fixed scroll (7), the rotation preventing device including orbital discs (28) respectively arranged in circular receiving holes (29) provided on the support arrangement (5), each orbital disc (28) being provided with an outer circumferential bearing surface (31) cooperating with an inner circumferential bearing surface (32) of the respective circular receiving hole (29); and a lubrication system configured to lubricate the inner and outer circumferential bearing surfaces (32, 31) with oil supplied from an oil sump (50), the lubrication system including lubrication passages (41) formed within the support arrangement (5), each lubrication passage (41) including an oil outlet aperture (41.2) emerging in the inner circumferential bearing surface (32) of a respective circular receiving hole (29) and at a predetermined position where low load is applied on the respective orbital disc during rotation of the drive shaft.

Removable hydropad for an orbiting scroll

A scroll compressor is provided and includes a motor housing having a support surface, a fixed scroll fixedly disposable on the motor housing, an orbiting scroll which is operably disposable for fluid-compressive orbital movement relative to the fixed scroll and a removable hydropad removably disposable on the support surface between the orbiting scroll and the support surface.

Oldham coupling

Oldham couplings are disclosed, for example, for use in electric camshaft adjusters. The Oldham coupling may include a first outer connecting disk and a second outer connecting disk having axes of rotation extending parallel to each other and a central connecting disk including one or more through-bores. One or more connecting elements may couple the first outer connecting disk to the central connecting disk via the through-bore(s). A sleeve may be arranged in the through-bore(s) such that the connecting element(s) contacts the sleeve and wear of the central connecting disk is reduced. For example, the sleeve may prevent direct contact of the connecting element(s) with the central connecting disk, such as by a spacer or flange. The sleeve may be made of metal, while the central connecting disk may be plastic or metal.
