ENHANCED PDM PERFORMANCE TESTING DEVICE
A method for evaluating load performance of a rotor/stator test coupon, advantageously within a sealable test chamber comprising test fluid. In some embodiments, the test coupon comprises at least a partial length of a PDM stage, and in others the test coupon comprises a splined rotor/stator. The method includes rotating either the rotor section or the stator section, wherein such rotation actuates corresponding rotation of the other of the rotor section and the stator section. A braking torque is applied to the actuated one of the rotor section and the stator section such that load performance of the test coupon may be evaluated. Embodiments include selectively applying non-linear torque to load the test coupon, and evaluating load performance of the test coupon with reference to relative angular positions of the rotor section and the stator section over time.
Internal combustion engine with split pilot injection
An internal combustion engine includes a housing defining an internal cavity, an inner body sealingly moving within the internal cavity for defining at least one combustion chamber of variable volume, a pilot subchamber in communication with the at least one working chamber, an ignition element in communication with the pilot subchamber, a main injector communicating with the at least one combustion chamber, and a pilot injector having a tip in communication with the pilot subchamber. The tip of the pilot injector includes at least a first injection hole defining a first spray direction and a second injection hole defining a second spray direction different from the first spray direction. The first spray direction extends toward the communication between the pilot subchamber and the at least one working chamber. A method of performing combustion in an internal combustion engine is also discussed.

A method for measuring load performance of a positive displacement motor (PDM) test coupon. The test coupon comprises a partial length of a PDM stage and is received inside a sealable test chamber. In some embodiments, the test coupon may be cut from a failed PDM stage. The test chamber is filled with test fluid. In some embodiments, the test fluid may be drilling fluid sampled from a live well. Rotation of the rotor on the test coupon actuates rotation of the stator. A braking torque is applied to the stator rotation, enabling evaluation of, for example, fatigue load performance of test coupon. Additional embodiments comprise the rotor axis and the stator axis being offset in order to simulate rotor/stator eccentricity in a full size PDM stage.

Valve position control
A system for controlling a turbine valve is provided. The system includes a hydraulic pilot valve section being moveable in a first direction and a second direction; a main hydraulic valve section being moveable in a first direction to close the turbine valve and a second direction to open the turbine valve; a position demand indicating a desired position of the turbine valve; a first feedback indicating an actual position of the hydraulic pilot valve section; and aa second feedback indicating an actual position of the main hydraulic valve section. The system also includes a pilot valve error; a main valve error; a turbine valve error; and a pilot valve adjustment moving the hydraulic pilot valve section in response to the turbine valve error. The turbine valve error is repeatedly determined and the pilot valve adjustment repeatedly moves the hydraulic pilot valve section to minimize the turbine valve error.

A system and method for preventing a flame out condition in at least one engine, includes detecting a moisture content exceeding a threshold moisture content in an operating environment of the at least one engine, and engaging at least one igniter associated with the at least one engine in response to the moisture content.
Vibration protection in a variable speed compressor
A system and method are provided for a variable speed compressor with a control module that controls an operating frequency of the variable speed compressor. The control module stores a prohibited frequency range that includes a resonant frequency of the variable speed compressor and an allowed upper frequency above the prohibited frequency range and an allowed lower frequency below the prohibited frequency range. The control module determines a requested frequency and operates the variable speed compressor at the allowed upper frequency for an upper frequency operating time and at the allowed lower frequency for a lower frequency operating time when the requested frequency is within the prohibited frequency range. The control module determines the upper frequency operating time and the lower frequency operating time such that a time-averaged frequency output over the upper frequency operating time and the lower frequency operating time corresponds to the requested frequency.
