The repowering system has a gas turbine that drives a second electrical generator where the HRSG is configured to receive the exhaust from the gas turbine and which is heated by a burner so as to generate steam for driving the steam turbines. The feedwater heaters utilize condensate from the said and from steam extractions to supply heated feedwater to the superheaters that feed superheated steam to turbines such that the first generator driven by the turbines is driven at a high percentage of its rated megawatt output.

The modified Goswami cycle energy conversion system includes a separator configured to receive the heated first and second portions of the working fluid and to output a vapor stream of the working fluid and a liquid stream of the working fluid; a first turbine and a generator are configured to generate power by expansion of a first portion of the vapor stream of the working fluid; a cooling subsystem including one or more cooling elements configured to cool a chilling fluid stream by exchange with a cooled second portion of the vapor stream of the working fluid; and a second turbine configured to generate power from the liquid stream of the working fluid.

Systems and methods for generating steam by creating shockwaves in a supersonic gaseous vortex

Steam may be generated using an apparatus that creates shockwaves in a supersonic gaseous vortex. The apparatus includes a chamber configured to receive, pressurize, and heat fuel gas and/or oxygen containing gas. One or more inlets positioned at a first end of the chamber and arranged to emit fuel gas, oxygen containing gas, or water as one or more jet streams tangentially to an internal surface of the chamber may create a gaseous vortex rotating about a longitudinal axis within the chamber. The inlet(s) may include one or more inlet nozzles structured to accelerate the one or more fuel gas, oxygen-containing gas, or water to a supersonic velocity and adjustably control frequency of shockwaves emitted into the gaseous vortex. Water can be injected into the chamber to stabilize internal chamber temperature where it may be converted into steam. An outlet may be configured to emit product gases and/or steam from the chamber.

A method of generating syngas as a primary product from renewable feedstock, fossil fuels, or hazardous waste with the use of a cupola. The cupola operates on inductive heat alone, chemically assisted heat, or plasma assisted heat. Cupola operation is augmented by employing carbon or graphite rods to carry electrical current into the metal bath that is influenced by the inductive element. The method includes the steps of providing a cupola for containing a metal bath; and operating an inductive element to react with the metal bath. A combination of fossil fuel, a hazardous waste, and a hazardous material is supplied to the cupola. A plasma torch operates on the metal bath directly, indirectly, or in a downdraft arrangement. Steam, air, oxygen enriched air, or oxygen are supplied to the metal bath. A pregassifier increases efficiency and a duct fired burner is added to a simple cycle turbine with fossil fuel augmentation.

A piping layout for a water steam cycle (WSC) system of a combined cycle power plant is disclosed. The piping layout includes a first steam flow pipe delivering steam from a steam source to a high pressure (HP) segment of the ST system. The first flow pipe includes a first vertically oriented thermal expansion portion. The WSC system may also include a second steam flow pipe delivering steam from the steam source to an intermediate pressure (IP) segment of the ST system. It may also include a third steam flow pipe delivering steam from HP segment of the ST system to a steam source. The vertically oriented thermal expansion portion(s) may be positioned immediately upstream of the admission valve of the respective segment and/or immediately downstream from an outlet of the steam source.

The invention relates to a method for operating a power plant (1) for generating electrical energy for delivery to at least one consumer (16) by combustion of a carbonaceous combustible, wherein carbon dioxide (19) is separated from the flue gas (7) of the power plant (1), the separated carbon dioxide (19) is converted at least in part into a fuel (20), characterized in that the fuel (20) is combusted at least temporarily in at least one heat engine (4) so as to form a waste gas (8), and electrical energy is generated by the heat engine (4) and is delivered to at least one consumer (16), at least some of the thermal energy of the waste gas (8) being used in at least one of the following processes: a) for heating combustion air (10) of a power plant (1); b) for heating a process medium (14) of the power plant (1); c) in a drying of the combustible of the power plant (1); and d) in carbon dioxide separation.

A piping system cleaning method includes the steps of: connecting at least one valve of the steam check valve and the turbine bypass valve and a connecting portion provided between the turbine bypass valve of the bypass piping and the condenser, by using temporary piping having a foreign matter collecting portion; closing a flow path on the outlet side of the valve; cleaning the steam piping by supplying steam to the steam piping; and sending the steam to the condenser through the temporary piping.

The Organic Rankine cycle energy conversion system includes a heat exchanger configured to heat a first portion of a working fluid by exchange with the heated heating fluid stream; and a cooling subsystem including one or more cooling elements each configured to cool one or more of a process stream from the crude oil associated gas processing plant and a cooling water stream for ambient air cooling by exchange with a second portion of the working fluid. The Organic Rankine cycle energy conversion system includes an ejector configured to receive the second portion of the working fluid from the cooling subsystem and a third portion of the working fluid; a turbine and a generator configured to generate power by expansion of a fourth portion of the working fluid; and a cooling element configured to cool a stream of working fluid including an output stream of working fluid from the ejector and the expanded fourth portion of the working fluid from the turbine and generator.
