Oil separator for separating oil from aerosol in a combustion engine
An oil separator separates oil from aerosol in a combustion engine. The oil separator includes a housing having an inlet opening for the aerosol, an impeller which can be rotatably driven about a rotational axis, and which is adapted for generating an aerosol flow along an axial direction of the impeller and arranged in the housing, and an impact wall which is designed in such a way that a projection of the impeller oriented axially and downstream in the air flow impinges on the impact wall. At least one part of a projection of the impeller oriented axially and downstream in the air flow impinges on the inlet opening.
CYLINDER HEAD ARRANGEMENT FOR VARIABLE VALVE ACTUATION ROCKER ARM ASSEMBLIES
A novel cylinder head arrangement for an in-line four cylinder or eight cylinder engine. A modified arrangement allows additional space for installation of wider rocker arm assemblies used for variable valve lift (VVL), cylinder deactivation (CDA) and other types of variable valve actuation (VVA). In one embodiment, cam towers adjacent the end two cylinders are not used. At least one end support is used, which may be an outboard bearing on a camshaft for each end. The wider rocker assemblies may then be installed. In another embodiment, cam towers adjacent the inner two cylinders are eliminated and a single camshaft support piece with a support bearing is installed between the inner cylinders to provide support for the camshafts. The wider rocker assemblies may then be installed on at least one of the middle cylinders. A novel oil control valve operates latches in switching rocker arm assemblies.
Valve stem seal
A valve stem seal includes an elastomeric annular seal body including a first seal body section and a second seal body section. The first seal body section includes a first seal lip configured to sealingly abut against the valve stem to delimit an oil space and a second seal lip axially spaced from the first seal lip and configured to sealingly abut against the valve stem to delimit an air space. The first seal body section includes an annular channel in a radially inner wall between the first seal lip and the second seal lip that is spaced from the valve stem when the valve stem seal is mounted on the valve stem, and the surface of the channel includes an undercut configured to facilitate a deformation of the second seal lip toward the first seal lip.

SEALING DEVICE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR
A sealing device seals a rod having a cylindrical part and a cylindrical guide that guides reciprocation of the rod in an axial direction of the rod. The sealing device includes an elastic ring formed of an elastic material, and a rigid ring formed of a rigid material fixed to the elastic ring for reinforcing the elastic ring. The elastic ring includes a lip with which an outer peripheral surface of the rod is in slidable contact. The rigid ring includes a rigid-ring cylindrical part located radially outside an end portion of the guide. The rigid-ring cylindrical part includes multiple hook hasps engaged into at least one recess formed on an outer peripheral surface of the guide. Each of the multiple hook hasps includes a root portion and a distal end portion located radially inward of the root portion and fitted into the recess. A thin portion is formed at the root portion of the hook hasp, the thin portion being thinner than other parts of the hook hasp.

Sliding member, and sliding member of internal combustion engine
A sliding member includes a base substrate and a coating layer formed on the base substrate. The coating layer includes a steel portion derived from austenitic stainless steel particles and a copper portion derived from copper particles or copper alloy particles. The steel portion and the copper portion are bonded to each other via an interface between the steel portion and the copper portion.
Lifter providing improved cam lobe lubrication
A cam follower assembly includes a cam roller, and a generally cylindrical body having an outer peripheral surface configured to be reciprocally slidable within a bore of an engine component. The cam roller is rotatably mounted on the body and configured to engage with a cam lobe on a camshaft of the engine. The cam lobe is operative to drive the body to a position at which the cam follower assembly causes one of opening of a valve or actuation of a fuel injector of the engine. A groove is formed in the body inset from the outer peripheral surface and extending axially along the outer peripheral surface parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body and aligned with an axial median plane of the cam roller and the cam lobe.

DEVELOPMENT OF A SWITCHING ROLLER FINGER FOLLOWER FOR CYLINDER DEACTIVATION IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES
A rocker arm includes an outer arm having a first side and a second side, an inner arm positioned between the first side and the second side of the outer arm, a pivot axle pivotally coupling the inner arm and the outer arm at a first end of each of the inner arm and the outer arm, and a latch having a first position and a second position. The latch in the first position pivotally fixes the inner arm and the outer arm at a second end of each of the inner arm and the outer arm, and in the second position allows the inner arm and the outer arm to pivot independently. The latch is responsive to hydraulic pressure in a hydraulic fluid passage to selectively move to other of the first position and the second position. A lost motion spring is coupled to the inner arm.
