Linear generators with a piston having a valve are described herein. The linear generator includes a combustion module and at least one linear motor. The linear motor includes at least one piston having: a piston head with an opening therein; a piston skirt opposed to the piston head; a piston side wall extending between the piston head and the piston skirt, the piston side wall having at least one port therein. The piston also includes a valve mechanism movable relative to each of the piston head, the piston seat and the piston side wall. The valve mechanism includes a valve stem extending through the piston skirt and the interior piston volume into a mover shaft of the motor, and a valve head coupled to the valve stem and configured to cover the opening of the piston head.

HYDRAULIC UNIT OF AN ELECTROHYDRAULIC GAS EXCHANGE VALVE CONTROL SYSTEM

The disclosure relates to a hydraulic unit of an electrohydraulic gas exchange valve control system of an internal combustion engine. The hydraulic unit includes a hydraulic housing having a receiving opening, a piston guide, and a slave piston. The piston guide is fastened in the hydraulic housing by way of self-staking with a wall of the receiving opening.

The piston guide includes an outer part that brings about the self-staking and an inner part that guides the slave piston. An inner surface of the outer part is radially interspaced from the outer surface of the inner part in an axial region of the self-staking and the outer part and the inner part are connected in an axially form-locked manner so that a first end section of the outer part facing the gas exchange valve is partially or fully formed into an outer circumferential recess of the inner part.

A method includes generating, by a controller, an initial life factor for the component; initiating, by the controller, a CDA mode for an engine; determining, by the controller, an actual life factor for the component, the actual life factor determined by comparing a number of switching events of a cylinder in the CDA mode to a number of cycles of the cylinder in the CDA mode; comparing, by the controller, the actual life factor to the initial life factor; and modifying, by the controller based on the comparison, operation of the engine in the CDA mode to adjust the actual life factor.

Systems and methods to extend a life of a component of a cylinder deactivation system are provided. The actuator includes: an actuator piston disc, a cylinder volume adapted for the actuator piston disc, where the actuator piston disc divides the cylinder volume in a first portion and a second portion, an inlet channel arranged between a pressure fluid inlet and the first portion of the cylinder volume, a controllable first inlet valve arranged in the inlet channel, a controllable second inlet valve arranged downstream the controllable first inlet valve, an outlet channel arranged between the first portion of the cylinder volume and a pressure fluid outlet, and a controllable outlet valve arranged in the outlet channel.

TWO-STEP VALVE CLOSING ROCKER ASSEMBLY

A valve actuation system includes a rocker for conveying motion to an engine valve, a motion source arranged to impart motion to the rocker, rocker stop assembly configured to operate in an activated mode, in which the rocker stop assembly maintains the rocker in a position corresponding to partial valve lift, and a deactivated mode, in which the rocker stop assembly allows the rocker to move to a position corresponding to a fully closed valve position, and a rocker stop reset assembly for resetting the rocker stop assembly to the deactivated mode subsequent to a main event peak lift to thereby achieve late valve closing. A damper assembly may interact with the rocker stop assembly to provide a smooth transition of the rocker and valve motion to a late intake valve closing dwell. A valve catch assembly may control the seating velocity of the at least one valve.
