Methods and Medical Devices for Diverticulosis Treatment
Methods of treating diverticulosis and medical devices suitable for use in such methods are described herein. In an embodiment, a method of treating diverticulosis in an animal comprises clearing the lumen of the colon of the animal of solid matter, isolating a treatment portion of the colon, applying suction at a point within the lumen of the colon to depressurize the treatment portion, applying a material to the external surface across at least one diverticulum of the diverticula on the colon, and removing the suction. In some embodiments, the material comprises an adhesive. A step of applying a second material across at least one diverticulum of the diverticula on the colon can also be included.
Stool Management System
A stool management system having a tubular body including a first end section disposable in a rectum of a patient and a second end section including a first connector which detachably mates with a second connector coupled to a collection container which receives waste matter passed through the tubular body from the bowel of the patient.
Bodily waste and fluid collection with sacral pad
Examples relate to apparatuses, devices, systems, and methods for collecting bodily waste and bodily fluid using a sacral pad as an attachment point. The bodily waste collection apparatus includes a sacral pad and a bodily waste collection device attached to a lower portion of the sacral pad. The bodily waste collection device includes a fluid impermeable casing defining an interior region therein, a permeable material at least partially disposed in the interior region, and a conduit disposed within the bodily waste collection device. The sacral pad secures to the wearer and the bodily waste collection devices is at least partially maintained in a position to receive bodily waste from a wearer by the sacral pad.
Device for collecting material from a body cavity
A collector for fecal discharge is provided comprising a self-expanding resilient collection component, a housing sheath and a transit component. The collection component has an open proximal and distal end and a lumen connecting them. The component comprises interconnected resilient arms circumscribing its contour, wherein adjacent arms are resiliently biased away from each other for exerting outwardly radial pressure for expanding and anchoring the component to rectal walls upon deployment. The housing sheath comprises a flexible and resilient material overlaying at least one of inner or outer contour of collection component without interfering with or blocking its ends or lumen. The transit component provides a conduit for fecal discharge to migrate from collection component to a receptacle and comprises a flexible, tubular sheath having a first open end connected to a second end by a lumen, wherein the first end engages with the proximal end of the collection component.
DEVICE FOR THE REPETITIVE SUPPLY AND DRAINING OF SUBSTANCES FOR MEDICAL THERAPY, AND SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING FAECAL CONTINENCE BY INTERMITTENT COLON LAVAGE BY MEANS OF A PERMANENTLY PLACED TRANS-ANAL OCCLUDING OR ACCESS CATHETER
The invention relates to a device, a system and a method for carrying out a lavage-like, repetitive supply and draining of a flushing, cleaning or other therapeutically active substance, in particular in the context of an evacuation by irrigation of a patient's colon. The device has a bag unit or bag/hose unit which has a combined flushing and collecting function and also at least one flow-directing function which prevents flushing liquid which has already been drained into the bag from flowing back towards the patient. The invention also relates to the combination of the bag unit or bag/hose unit with a catheter unit which can be placed in position in a permanent and atraumatic manner, is positioned trans-anally, seals off the anal canal, preferably by means of a dumbbell-shaped balloon component, and can be left in the patient's rectum, preferably after lavage is complete.
ANCILLARY VACUUM MODULE USABLE WITH AN ENDOSCOPE
According to some embodiments of the invention there is provided a colon cleaning system comprising: a working channel, a vacuum source, a separate vacuum pipe provided alongside the working channel, and a sensor positioned at a conduit connected externally to the working channel, the sensor configured for providing an indication related to pressure within at least a segment of the working channel. In some embodiments, the system comprises a controller configured for controlling one or more parameters of a vacuum induced in the separate vacuum pipe, the parameter determined according to the pressure related indication provided by the sensor.
CLEANING METHOD FOR PREPLESS COLONOSCOPY
Methods for clearing of fecal matter the wall of a colon or other body lumen for diagnostic inspection, the methods being adapted to clearing of fecal matter comprised of particles of various sizes and compositions. Methods are further adapted for application in patients who have undergone a restricted scope of preparation to reduce and/or remediate the particle structure of colon contents, or no preparation at all, before diagnostic inspection.
DEVICE FOR THE TRANS-ANAL DRAINAGE OF STOOL FROM THE RECTUM OF A PATIENT AND/OR FOR THE TRANS-ANAL APPLICATION OF INFLOWING LIQUID THROUGH A CATHETER-LIKE ELEMENT
A device for emptying stool from the rectum of a patient by means of a shaft body which is introduced into the bowel via the anus and is able to buckle or fold axially and radially, and which is provided with a dumbbell- or hourglass-shaped balloon body for assuring the transanal positioning of the device. The invention is further characterized by the special design of and choice of material for the shaft body and the balloon envelope and by the specific positioning of the balloon body on the shaft body, wherein the axial deflection of the free forward end of the shaft body is limited or an uncontrolled deflection of the shaft is prevented, and the probability of perforation of the bowel wall under the effect of force acting on the shaft body from an axial direction is therefore decisively reduced by the intestinal tube described according to the invention.
Delivery system for fecal management device
The invention provides an apparatus for fecal management, comprising a device for collection of fecal discharge, and an insertion component. The device for collection of fecal discharge may comprise an expansile retaining component configured for deployment within a subject's rectum and having an annular cross-section. The insertion component may be configured for rectal insertion of the retaining component, and may include an elongate shaft having a first end positioned proximal to the retaining component and a second end positioned distal to the retaining component. At least one of the retaining component and the elongate shaft may be provided with a plurality of constraining members configured to releasably constrain the retaining component in a collapsed configuration against an external surface of the elongate shaft.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR THE LAVAGE-TYPE INTRODUCTION OF A FECAL TRANSPLANT OR OF A THERAPEUTICALLY EFFECTIVE SUBSTANCE INTO THE COLON OF A PATIENT
The invention describes a device and a method for a lavage-type introduction of a stool transplant or of another, local or topically effective substance through the anus into the colon of a patient, wherein the substance to be introduced is flushed also into the upper parts of the colon of the patient in a torrent-like manner through correspondingly large-lumen catheters; said device comprises an ano-rectal placed head part remaining inside the patient from the beginning until the end of the application and a system of exchangeable bags, which are connectable to the head part, whereby two different types of bags can be applied, one of which is designed for the cleaning lavage, while the another is designed for the introduction of a substance or a transplant.
