VALVE TRAIN ASSEMBLY
A type II valve train assembly that selectively opens first and second intake valves and first and second exhaust valves is provided. The valve train assembly includes an intake rocker arm assembly and an exhaust rocker arm assembly. The valve train assembly is configurable for operation in any combination of activated and deactivated states of engine braking and cylinder deactivation. The exhaust rocker arm assembly includes a first exhaust rocker arm, a second exhaust rocker arm and an engine brake exhaust rocker arm. A first exhaust HLA is associated with the first exhaust rocker arm. A second exhaust HLA is associated with the second exhaust valve. An exhaust actuation assembly selectively actuates to alter travel of the first and second exhaust HLA's to change a state of cylinder deactivation between activated and deactivated.
Engine valve actuation with handoff control between cooperative valve actuation motions
A valve actuation system comprises a first motion transfer mechanism operatively connected to a first valve actuation motion source and to the at least one engine valve, a second motion transfer mechanism operatively connected to a second valve actuation motion source; and a selectable coupling mechanism between the first and second motion transfer mechanisms. The coupling mechanism is operable in a first state where first valve actuation motions are conveyed to the at least one engine valve via the first motion transfer mechanism, and a second state where second valve actuation motions are additionally conveyed to the at least one engine valve via the second motion transfer mechanism, the coupling mechanism and the first motion transfer mechanism. During a handoff between the first and second valve actuation motions or vice versa, a difference in valve actuation velocities of the first and second valve actuation motions does not exceed a threshold.
Methods and systems for unsticking engine poppet valves
Systems and methods for unsticking intake and exhaust valves of an engine are described. In one example, valves that may be adjustably timed relative to an engine crankshaft position may be adjusted to unstick intake and/or exhaust valve that are stuck open or closed. In addition, fuel injection timing and spark timing may be adjusted in an effort to unstick intake and/or exhaust valves.
ENGINE VALVE ACTUATION WITH HANDOFF CONTROL BETWEEN COOPERATIVE VALVE ACTUATION MOTIONS
A valve actuation system comprises a first motion transfer mechanism operatively connected to a first valve actuation motion source and to the at least one engine valve, a second motion transfer mechanism operatively connected to a second valve actuation motion source; and a selectable coupling mechanism between the first and second motion transfer mechanisms. The coupling mechanism is operable in a first state where first valve actuation motions are conveyed to the at least one engine valve via the first motion transfer mechanism, and a second state where second valve actuation motions are additionally conveyed to the at least one engine valve via the second motion transfer mechanism, the coupling mechanism and the first motion transfer mechanism. During a handoff between the first and second valve actuation motions or vice versa, a difference in valve actuation velocities of the first and second valve actuation motions does not exceed a threshold.
ROCKER ARM ASSEMBLY WITH LOST MOTION SPRING
A rocker arm assembly can comprise a cam side rocker arm portion configured to selectively rotate about a pivot location. The cam side rocker arm portion can comprise a first socket above the pivot location, and a cam end configured to receive a lift profile from a cam lobe. A valve side rocker arm portion can be configured to rotate about the pivot location relative to the cam side rocker arm portion. The valve side rocker arm portion can comprise a second socket above the pivot location. A lost motion spring can span between the first socket and the second socket.
Lower travel deactivating lash adjuster when combined with two-step variable valve lift rocker arm
A method of operating a rocker arm assembly in a cylinder deactivation mode according to one example of the present disclosure includes providing a two-step variable valve lift rocker arm assembly and a deactivating lash adjuster. Operation of the rocker arm assembly in cylinder deactivation mode is selected. The rocker arm assembly is operated in low-lift mode based on the selection of the cylinder deactivation mode. Subsequent to or concurrently with operating the rocker arm assembly in the low-lit mode, the deactivating lash adjuster is operated in the unlatched mode. A first amount of the total lost motion required for cylinder deactivation mode is accounted for by lost motion of the rocker arm assembly operating in the low-lift mode and a remainder amount of the total lost motion is accounted for by lost motion of the deactivating lash adjuster operating in the unlatched mode.
Actuation apparatus
An actuation apparatus actuates a latching arrangement of a switchable valve train component of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus includes: a lever configured to contract an actuation source and configured to contact the latching arrangement; and a bias. The bias contacts the lever. The bias is configured such that, in use, the bias becomes biased by the lever when the actuation source moves the lever when the actuation source attempts to actuate the latching arrangement, via the lever, when the latching arrangement is non-actuatable, whereby the bias causes the lever to actuate the latching arrangement when the latching arrangement is actuatable again.
Device for adjusting the stroke of a valve of internal combustion engines
The disclosure relates 10 a device which is used to adjust the valve stroke of internal combustion engines and has an actuation element for the valve stem. The actuation element is actuated by the camshaft and has a receiving space for a pressure medium. The receiving space is fluidically connected to a reservoir space of an adjustment reservoir. The volume of the reservoir space can be adjusted by means of a reservoir piston. The reservoir piston is loaded toward the reservoir space with a force that is greater than the force applied by the pressure medium and that is less than the restoring force acting on the piston.
VARIABLE VALVE ACTUATION
The present invention provides for Variable Valve Actuation comprising a cam, a valve suitable to displace between a closed position and an open condition caused by said cam, and further comprising a main rocker arm suitable to swing over a fulcrum , mechanically interacting with said valve, by means of a guide profile, and wherein said cam interacts with said main rocker arm causing said valve displacement as a consequence of said main rocker arm swinging. The target is to prevent a valve brake due to the guide profile and enable higher system stiffness. Accumulator less designs are feasible with this system.
Fuel content detection based on a measurement from a sensor and a model estimation of the measurement
A fuel content detection system is disclosed. The fuel content detection system may include an engine control module (ECM) to receive a measurement of a parameter. The parameter may correlate with an amount of a substance in a fuel that is being consumed in an engine. The ECM may determine an estimation of the parameter based on a model. The model may use a predetermined value associated with the amount of the substance, and the engine may be configured to consume a designated type of fuel that includes an amount of the substance that corresponds to the predetermined value. The ECM may determine, based on the estimation and the measurement not being within a threshold range, that the fuel is not the designated type of fuel and perform an action associated with the engine.
