Methods and systems are provided for actively heating pistons in combustion chambers to decrease a torque imbalance in an engine. In one example, a method for operation of an engine includes determining a variation between compression ratios in a first combustion chamber and a second combustion chamber and operating a piston heating system to apply a targeted amount of heat to a first piston assembly based on the variation between the compression ratios, the first piston assembly including a first piston positioned within the first combustion chamber.

Vehicle having an internal combustion engine and a waste-heat-collecting housing, method for using part of the heat given off by an internal combustion engine, and stationary assembly, in particular block-type thermal power station

A device and to a method are provided for using part of the heat given off by an internal combustion engine. A waste-heat-collecting housing surrounds at least part of an exhaust-gas manifold and/or at least part of an engine-side segment of an exhaust-gas system of the internal combustion engine. Air contained in the waste-heat-collecting housing is heated, and the heated air is used indirectly or directly to heat at least one of air that is introduced in a passenger compartment of the vehicle, cooling liquid of the internal combustion engine and oil in an oil circuit of the internal combustion engine. The waste-heat-collecting housing is similarly useable in a stationary apparatus having an internal combustion engine.

Engine control device

An engine control device sets a target value for the engine oil temperature appropriately in an engine that uses gasoline as a fuel, even when the fuel does not have a single boiling point because the gasoline is a mixed composition, or when the fuel property changes (for example, when the vaporization property changes due to deterioration). In other words, the engine control device prevents excessive heating or insufficient heating by changing the oil temperature to the high side in a condition wherein the fuel being used does not easily vaporize, and changing the oil temperature to the low side in a condition wherein the fuel being used easily vaporizes. This engine control device includes an oil temperature controller that controls the temperature of oil lubricating the interior of the engine; a fuel supply device that supplies fuel to the engine; and a detector for detecting the property of the fuel. The temperature of the oil is controlled on the basis of a signal from the detector.

Marine propulsion and generator systems and methods

A marine propulsion system for a marine vessel includes an engine effectuating rotation of an output shaft, multiple batteries configured to power a marine vessel load, and an alternator having a rotor that is driven into rotation by the output shaft and that outputs a charge current to the batteries. The marine propulsion system further includes a control system configured to operate the engine in a propulsion mode and a generator mode. Upon receiving a generator mode command to start the engine in the generator mode, the control system operates the engine in accordance with a set of generator parameters to charge the batteries while a shift system of the marine propulsion system is locked in a neutral position such that the propulsor cannot be engaged and the marine vessel remains stationary.

Lubrication system for an internal combustion engine, and method for lubrication

Embodiments for a lubrication system for an internal combustion engine are provided. In one example, a lubrication system for an internal combustion engine comprises a lubricant circuit, a radiator for cooling the lubricant, a heat accumulator arranged upstream of the engine for warming up the lubricant, the heat accumulator connected in parallel to the radiator, and a valve for switching over the lubricant circuit between the radiator and the heat accumulator. In this way, the oil may be rapidly heated during cold engine start conditions.

Integration of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), exhaust heat recovery (EHRS), and latent heat storage in a complete exhaust thermal management module

A thermal energy management system for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle includes a coolant circuit including the internal combustion engine and a first heat exchanger. The coolant circuit is configured to convey a coolant therethrough. The thermal energy management system includes a gas circuit including the internal combustion engine, the first heat exchanger, and an exhaust line configured to convey an exhaust gas produced by the engine from the gas circuit. The first heat exchanger exchanging heat energy between the coolant flowing through the coolant circuit and the exhaust gas flowing through the gas circuit.
