Method for preventing a premature ignition in an internal combustion engine and internal combustion engine
Methods for preventing a premature ignition of a cylinder charge in advance of a planned ignition point in an internal combustion engine are provided. In one method, a pressure in a crankcase of the internal combustion engine is adjusted so as to prevent lubricating oil constituents from being transported from the crankcase to a combustion chamber of a cylinder of the internal combustion engine due to a pressure ratio between the crankcase and the combustion chamber. In another method, an ignition point for a cylinder of the internal combustion engine is adjusted in a given operating range of the internal combustion engine in such a way that the adjusted ignition point brings about a knocking combustion in the cylinder. Internal combustion engines having a device for preventing a premature ignition of a cylinder charge in advance of a planned ignition point are also provided.
CONDUIT FOR MAINTAINING TEMPERATURE OF FLUID
A conduit for transferring fluid from one location to another. The conduit includes a tube having an outer surface and an insulation layer surrounding the tube. A heating layer is disposed between the insulation layer and the tube, such that the heating layer is wrapped around the outer surface of the tube. The conduit includes a reinforcement layer sandwiched between the insulation layer and the heating layer.
Monitoring the Ventilation of a Crankcase of an Internal Combustion Engine
Various embodiments include a method for monitoring the ventilation of a crankcase of an internal combustion engine with combustion chambers and a nitrogen oxide sensor arranged in an exhaust system, the sensor configured to detect an amount of nitrogen oxide in exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. An example method includes: determining a predefined operating mode of the internal combustion engine defined by substantially no combustion of an air/fuel mixture taking place inside the combustion chambers; determining an amount of nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gas during the predefined operating mode of the internal combustion engine using the exhaust gas sensor; and identifying functional ventilation of the crankcase if the detected nitrogen oxide level exceeds a predefined nitrogen oxide threshold or identifying a malfunction if the detected nitrogen oxide level is below the predefined nitrogen oxide threshold.
Method and Apparatus
In some embodiments, there is provided a method of controlling a pressure gradient between a combustion chamber and a crankcase of an engine, the method having: receiving, at a control device, a signal indicating that a lubricant container is coupled to a lubricant circulation system associated with the engine, in response to the received signal, providing data to cause operation of a suction control device for facilitating control of the pressure gradient.

Method for diagnosing a crankcase system of an internal combustion engine, and internal combustion engine
A method for diagnosing a crankcase system of an internal combustion engine. A pressure value is captured in a crankcase system. A pressure value of a reference pressure is ascertained or a pressure value to be expected in the crankcase system is modeled. A gradient of the pressure value in the crankcase system and a gradient of the reference pressure or the modeled pressure in the crankcase system is formed. The two formed gradients are integrated over time. The function of the crankcase system is evaluated based on the values obtained by the integrations. A control device as well as an internal combustion engine for carrying out the method are provided.
