An inlet port (17A) of a first exhaust gas purifying device (16) is provided on a side opposite to an engine (8) by sandwiching an axis (O1-O1) of a cylindrical body (17) of the first exhaust gas purifying device (16). An exhaust pipe (26) connecting the engine (8) and the first exhaust gas purifying device (16) is constituted by a lateral pipe line (27) extending in a left and right direction of an upper revolving structure (3) on a front side of the first exhaust gas purifying device (16) and having a bellows pipe (28) in the middle for absorbing relative displacement between the engine (8) and the first exhaust gas purifying device (16) and a bent pipe line (29) bent having a U-shape rearward from a tip end side of the lateral pipe line (27) and connected to the inlet port (17A) of the first exhaust gas purifying device (16).
HIGH-END PROCESSING DEVICE FOR PURIFICATION OF EXHAUST OF DIESEL ENGINE
A high-end processing device for purification of exhaust of a diesel engine includes a connection channel, a plurality of catalytic converters, a plurality of direct-passage ceramic filters, and at least one wall-flow filter. The catalytic converters are arranged, in a manner of being spaced from each other, at a front portion of an exhaust gas flow path defined by the connection channel. The direct-passage ceramic filters and the wall-flow filter are arranged, in a manner of being spaced from each other, at a rear portion of the exhaust gas flow path of the connection channel. The direct-passage ceramic filters and the wall-flow filter are impregnated with urea or ammonia and dried so as to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) into nitrogen and water to reduce impact to the environment.
Detecting a modification of a particle filter for an exhaust branch of a motor vehicle
A system for identifying a modification of a component in an exhaust gas line of a motor vehicle, includes a particulate filter, a diagnostic system, a first temperature sensor, a second temperature sensor, and an evaluation unit. The evaluation unit is configured to receive from the first temperature sensor a first temperature variable which is characteristic of a first exhaust gas temperature and to receive from the second temperature sensor a second temperature variable which is characteristic of a second exhaust gas temperature. The evaluation unit is also configured to compare the temperature variables or comparison variables which are derived therefrom with each other. Depending on the comparison, the evaluation unit is also configured to determine a modification of the particulate filter.
AUTO-IGNITION INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE SUITABLE FOR HCCI OPERATION, AND METHOD FOR OPERATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OF SAID TYPE
Methods and systems are provided for an auto-ignition internal combustion engine comprising an exhaust gas recirculation arrangement, an intake system, and an exhaust gas discharge system for the discharge of exhaust gases, in which the internal combustion engine is operable, at least in a first, stoichiometric operating mode, by way of a spatial ignition method (HCCI mode). For the aftertreatment of the exhaust gas in the first operating mode, a three-way catalytic converter is provided in the exhaust gas discharge system for reducing nitrogen oxides and oxidizing unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. In this way, the auto-ignition internal combustion engine has a greater window of operation in the HCCI mode than conventional auto-ignition internal combustion engines.
EXHAUST SYSTEM
An exhaust system for a combustion engine includes first and second catalytic converters arranged downstream of the combustion engine in a flow direction of exhaust gas. First and second exhaust pipes extend from the combustion engine to the first and second catalytic converters, respectively, with a first valve disposed in the first exhaust pipe, and a second valve disposed in the second exhaust pipe. The first and second valves operate such that in the presence of an exhaust temperature which is equal to or less than a limit value, at least the first valve opens to allow exhaust gas from the combustion engine to flow through the first catalytic converter, and that the first valve closes and the second valve opens, when the exhaust temperature is greater than the limit value to thereby allow exhaust gas from the combustion engine to flow through the second catalytic converter.
Dual path aftertreatment system and method utilizing fuel as an on-board reductant for NOx SCR
A system and method for utilizing fuel as an on-board reductant for selective catalytic reduction of NOx is provided and includes a controller for controlling an engine to produce a lean first exhaust stream and a rich second exhaust stream that are received in respective first and second passageways of a dual path aftertreatment system. The rich second exhaust stream reacts with NOx stored in a NOx storage and reduction catalyst of the second passageway to regenerate this catalyst and generate ammonia. The first exhaust stream and the second exhaust stream having the generated ammonia are combined in a downstream common passageway to form a combined lean exhaust gas stream where the ammonia carried therein is stored or used by an SCR catalyst of the common passageway for NOx reduction. The engine is subsequently controlled to produce a rich first exhaust stream and a lean second exhaust stream.
