20210131325 · 2021-05-06 ·

An exhaust system is described comprising an array of a plurality of operably coupled fluid treatment apparatus for the treatment of a fluid substance. Each one of the plurality of fluid treatment apparatus comprises a reactor chamber defined by a perimeter wall; a fluid inlet adapted to provide fluid communication from an external supply of a fluid substance to be treated to said reactor chamber whereby said fluid substance passes into and through said reactor chamber; a fluid outlet adapted to provide a fluid communication from said reactor chamber whereby said fluid substance passes from said reactor chamber; at least one electromagnetic radiation (EMR) waveguide, having a waveguide input port and a waveguide output port, operably coupled within said reactor chamber and adapted to couple electromagnetic radiation of at least one predetermined wavelength to a fluid substance passing through said reactor chamber, wherein said perimeter wall of said reactor chamber is adapted to force said fluid substance received from said fluid inlet and passing through said reactor chamber into a continuous swirling flow towards said fluid outlet. The exhaust system in an embodiment further comprises a housing, having at least one exhaust inlet port and at least one exhaust outlet port, adapted to operably receive and enclose said array of a plurality of operably coupled fluid treatment apparatus, and at least one fluid tight seal member, adapted to engage with at least an outer surface of said array of a plurality of operably coupled fluid treatment apparatus, so as to provide a fluid tight seal between an inner surface of said housing and said at least one outer surface of said array of a plurality of operably coupled fluid treatment apparatus.

Gaseous emissions treatment structures

A gaseous emissions treatment component has a honeycomb substrate along and through which extend elongate cells for the passage of gaseous emissions through the substrate. The cells are bounded by walls dividing adjacent cells from one another. Metal elements occupy and extend along some of the cells. A metal element has an outer surface shape matching the inner surface of an immediately adjacent part of the cell within which the metal element is located.

Electrical connection, in particular for an electrically heatable honeycomb body

An electrical connection for an electrical component in an exhaust gas system. The exhaust gas system has a metal casing through which an electrical conductor is routed. The connection has the conductor, an electrical insulation surrounding the conductor, and a metal bushing surrounding the insulation and the conductor, all together extend along a center axis. The insulation extends along the center axis beyond the bushing by an insulation gap of at least 2 mm at least at a first end of the connection.

Retention of wires in an induction heated gaseous emissions treatment unit

Techniques are disclosed to aid fixing of an elongate wire within an elongate, linear cell of a honeycomb ceramic substrate unit for a gaseous emissions treatment assembly. In one method, the wire is formed with a resiliently flexible element, and inserted into the cell, the insertion act causing the resiliently flexible element to flex and to cause a part of the element to bear against a wall of the cell and so provide frictional retention of the wire in the cell. In another, method, an adhesive is used either on the outside of the wire or the inside of the cell. In another method, the wire is scored at spaced intervals along its length to provide relief spaces for linear expansion of the wire to reduce stress at its interface with cell walls.

CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

An internal combustion engine is provided with an engine body, a housing provided in an exhaust passage of the engine body, a filter held inside the housing and trapping PM in the exhaust, and a microwave device for microwaving the inside of the housing. A control device for the internal combustion engine is configured to control the microwave device when microwaving the inside of the housing to heat the PM so that an amplitude of the microwaves becomes smaller when the amount of PM deposition at the filter is large compared to when it is small.

EXHAUST GAS CONTROL APPARATUS FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
20200400059 · 2020-12-24 ·

An exhaust gas control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes an electromagnetic wave output unit, an acquisition unit that acquires collection amounts of PM and substances other than PM based on a rotational speed and a fuel injection amount of the internal combustion engine, and a control unit that controls an output intensity of the electromagnetic wave output unit. The control unit causes electromagnetic waves to be output with a first output intensity when the collection amount of the substances other than PM becomes equal to or smaller than a predetermined threshold, and causes electromagnetic waves to be output with a second output intensity that is lower than the first output intensity when the collection amount of the substances other than PM becomes larger than the predetermined threshold, when the collection amount of PM has exceeded a permissible value of the collection amount of PM in the filter.
