A method welds together two components of an internal combustion engine exhaust system, by resistance welding, to provide greater positioning freedom of two components welded together. A first component is provided with a welding area including an insertion opening edge surrounding an insertion opening. A second component is provided with a welding area including an insertion area to be inserted into the insertion opening. The insertion area is inserted into the insertion opening such that the insertion area is in contact with the first the entire insertion opening edge. An electrical voltage is applied to resistance weld the first component to the second component. The surface (28) of the insertion area is curved about two axes that are not parallel or is curved about an axis that is parallel to the surface of the insertion area, or/and an insertion surface of the insertion opening edge is located in one plane.

HIGH POWER DENSITY INSULATED EXHAUST HEATING SYSTEM

An exhaust gas heating unit for an engine includes a housing and a heating element. The housing includes a tubular peripheral wall and has an interior hollow space. The heating element has first and second ends and extends longitudinally therebetween to form a spiral shape within the interior hollow space. The heating element includes a thermally conductive sheath, an electrically conductive resistance element that extends longitudinally within the external sheath, and an electrically insulating material disposed about the resistance element between the resistance element and the sheath. A heat transfer member is positioned within the interior hollow space and is formed from one or more strips of thermally conductive material. The strips contact the external sheath at a plurality of locations between the first end and the second end. The heat transfer member has a corrugated shape that follows the spiral shape of the heating element.

Mixer device

A mixer device for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a tubular carrier (30) enclosing a mixer longitudinal axis (A) in a ring shape configuration and a mixer insert (28) carried at the carrier (30). The mixer insert (28) has a plurality of connection attachments (52, 54, 56) located at spaced locations from one another in relation to the mixer longitudinal axis (A) radially on the outside. The carrier (30) has a plurality of connection recesses (60, 62) for the permanent connection of the mixer insert (28) to the carrier (30).

High power density insulated exhaust heating system

A heating apparatus for heating fluid includes a container body, a plurality of electric heater elements, and a support structure. The container body defines a perimeter of a flow path for a fluid flowing through the container body. The plurality heater elements are exposed to the flow path. Each heater element includes a resistance element, sheath, and insulating material disposed about the resistance element between the resistance element and the sheath. The support structure includes a plurality of support sheets. The heater elements extend transversely through each support sheet and contact each support sheet to restrict movement of the heater elements and support the heater elements in the container body. The support sheets contact the sheaths of the electric heater elements to increase heat transfer to the fluid flowing through the flow path. Opposite ends of each support sheet are connected to the container body.

Method for forming a collar in a muffler shell including: providing a muffler shell made of a metal sheet and forming a muffler housing, the muffler shell having an exhaust gas opening, providing a collar forming head having a rotational axis and at least two movable expanders, introducing a collar forming head into a muffler housing, moving the expanders of the collar forming head introduced into the muffler shell radially away from the rotational axis of the collar forming head from a retracted position to an expanded position rotating the collar forming head around the of the collar forming head, bringing the rotating expanded collar forming head in contact with the metal sheet forming an outwardly projecting collar around the exhaust gas opening by flaring the edge of the metal sheet.

Heat shield, exhaust system and automobile

A heat shield comprises a first thermal insulation section and a second thermal insulation section, wherein the second thermal insulation section is axially connected to the first thermal insulation section, and the thermal insulation performance of the second thermal insulation section is lower than that of the first thermal insulation section. The heat shield is advantageous in that it cannot only achieve a good integral thermal insulation effect, but also protect thermal-fatigue weak zones of an exhaust system shell, so as to prolong the operating life of the exhaust system and reduce the costs of maintenance and repair for an automobile, etc.
