Dual function manifold assembly incorporating a detachable catalytic converter
A replacement kit for use with a motor vehicle that was originally equipped with an exhaust system including an exhaust manifold and a catalytic converter welded thereto. The replacement kit includes a replacement catalytic converter arranged for use during use of the motor vehicle on public roads. Rather than welding, the replacement catalytic converter attaches to the exhaust manifold using a clamp to form a gas-tight seal. The clamp is arranged to move from the closed position to an open position to enable disengagement of the replacement catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold and substitution of a bypass pipe in place of the replacement catalytic converter to increase performance characteristics of the vehicle during off-road use.
EXHAUST GAS TREATMENT ASSEMBLY
An exhaust gas treatment assembly for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a housing having a circumferential wall and at least one base wall which in an external circumferential region is connected to the circumferential wall. In a housing interior space, which is defined by the circumferential wall and the base wall, at least one exhaust gas treatment unit is positioned so as to be removable from the housing. At least one base wall is an interchangeable base wall which is releasably connected to the circumferential wall via a connection assembly. The connection assembly includes a first connection portion, a first axial support portion, and on the base wall includes a second connection portion which via at least one connection member is releasably connected to the first connection portion and a second axial support portion is supported on the first axial support portion.
DEVICE FOR CONNECTION OF A COMPONENT, IN PARTICULAR A PARTICULATE-FILTER UNIT, TO THE STRUCTURE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE, WITH COMPENSATION OF DIMENSIONAL VARIATIONS DUE TO MANUFACTURING TOLERANCES
A motor-vehicle component, in particular a particulate-filter unit for diesel engines, includes a main body provided with attachments for connection to the structure of the motor vehicle and an additional body connected to said main body and in turn connected to the structure of the motor vehicle by a connection device that is able to compensate for dimensional variations due to manufacturing tolerances.
Flange assembly and related methods of connecting two exhaust pipes together with a flange assembly
A flange assembly and related methods of connecting two exhaust pipes together with a flange assembly are provided. The flange assembly includes a first flange having a first mating face and a second flange connected to the first flange, wherein the second flange has a second mating face. A sealing structure is formed with the mating faces of the first and second flanges, wherein the sealing structure comprises a groove positioned on the first mating face and a ridge positioned in the second mating face, wherein the ridge occupies at least a portion of the groove with the first flange connected to the second flange.
DUAL PURPOSE CLAMP FOR SECURING AFTERTREATMENT HOUSING JOINTS
An apparatus comprises a housing comprising a housing first portion and a housing second portion. The housing first portion comprises a first joint portion overlapping a second joint portion of the housing second portion so as to form a housing joint. A clamp is positioned on the housing joint and comprises a base portion. A first surface of the base portion is positioned on the housing joint. A plurality of legs extend from the base portion towards the housing each of which are spaced from each other around the housing joint. A plurality of flange segments extend from each side of the base portion away from the housing. A band is positioned on a second surface of the base portion opposite the first surface and around the clamp. The band is positioned between the plurality of flange segments and operatively coupled to the housing via the clamp.
FASTENING DEVICE FOR FIXING AN EXHAUST MANIFOLD ON A CYLINDER HEAD OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A fastening device, fixing an exhaust manifold (12) on a cylinder head (14) of an internal combustion engine, has a contact surface (20) supported relative to a cylinder head contact surface (22). A fastening edge area (16) has a wedge fastening flange area (24) with a fastening element support surface (26) inclined in relation to the contact surface (20) that has a wedge angle (W.sub.1). A fastening element (38) is pressed against the fastening element support surface (26) with a fastening flange support surface (40) with a fastening bolt unit (30) supported in relation to the cylinder head (14). The wedge angle (W.sub.1) and a coefficient of static friction (μ) of the frictional interaction of the fastening element (38) in relation to the exhaust manifold (12) is defined by: 0<W.sub.1<2 tan.sup.−1 (μ), in which W.sub.1 is the wedge angle, and μ if the coefficient of static friction.
Exhaust clamp and method
An assembly is provided including a clamp comprising a band having an annular groove defined therein. The annular groove is defined between a pair of curved band surface sections joined to a substantially flat band surface section when the clamp is viewed in cross-section. The assembly also includes a substantially cylindrical body having an axis. A flared flange extends radially outwardly from the cylindrical body. A retaining clip extends from the flared flange. The band clamp is secured to the conduit such that the flared flange of the conduit is positioned within the band, and the retaining clip of the conduit is secured to the band.
ENGINE APPARATUS
An engine apparatus includes an engine, an exhaust gas purification device, an outlet side bracket, and an inlet side bracket. The exhaust gas purification device is mounted above a cylinder head to extend along an axis of an output shaft of the engine. The inlet side bracket is configured to couple an exhaust gas inlet side of the exhaust gas purification device to the cylinder head. The inlet side bracket includes a first bracket, a second bracket, and a third bracket. The first bracket is configured to be secured to a surface of the cylinder head intersecting the axis of the output shaft and includes a wide width. The second bracket includes a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The third bracket is configured to be coupled to an end surface of the exhaust gas purification device and the distal end portion of the second bracket.
Exhaust manifold with turbo support
An exhaust manifold includes an inner assembly that defines an exhaust gas passage and an outer housing assembly that surrounds the inner assembly. The outer housing assembly includes a first housing component configured for attachment to an engine and a second housing component configured for attachment to a turbocharger. The first and second housing components cooperate to surround the inner assembly. At least one fastener secures the first and second housing components together to generate a compressive force that seals and holds the inner assembly in a gas tight manner.
METHOD FOR REPLACING AN EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT COMPONENT
