Muffler

A muffler, connected to an engine through an exhaust pipe, includes a shell serving as a muffler body, an inlet pipe configured to introduce exhaust gas from the engine into the shell, an outlet pipe configured to discharge the exhaust gas out of the shell, and a cap configured to be attached to a narrowed portion of the inlet pipe and control the direction in which the exhaust gas flows out. The cap is provided with an opening through which the exhaust gas passes and which regulates the direction in which the exhaust gas flows out.

Aftertreatment system including noise reducing components

An apparatus includes a housing defining an internal volume and structured to house aftertreatment component for reducing constituents of an exhaust gas. A noise reducing component is disposed within the internal volume and structured to extend around at least a portion of the aftertreatment component.

A mixing chamber for mixing an additive in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a housing, a flow-guiding element and a downstream substrate. The flow-guiding element is arranged within the housing between an inlet opening and an outlet opening. The flow-guiding element is tubular and forms a channel including a channel wall, one inlet and one outlet, via which all of the exhaust gas is guided through the channel to the outlet.

An exhaust apparatus includes a chamber disposed below an engine, an inlet pipe guiding exhaust gas from an exhaust pipe to the chamber, a tail pipe discharging the exhaust gas from the chamber to an outside, a first partition wall partitioning an inside of the chamber to a pair of left and right spaces, and a second partition wall partitioning one of the left and right spaces to a pair of front and rear spaces. Another of the left and right spaces is a first expansion chamber into which the inlet pipe enters. A rear space of the front and rear spaces is a second expansion chamber disposed downstream of the first expansion chamber. A front space of the front and rear spaces is a third expansion chamber disposed downstream of the second expansion chamber, and the tail pipe enters into the front space.

DECOMPOSITION CHAMBER

A decomposition chamber for an exhaust gas aftertreatment system includes an inlet tube, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst member, a mixing collector wall, a distribution cap, and a dividing tube. The inlet tube is configured to receive exhaust gas. The mixing collector wall includes a mixing assembly flow aperture. The distribution cap is coupled to the inlet tube and configured to receive the exhaust gas from the inlet tube. The dividing tube is coupled to the mixing collector wall. The dividing tube separates the distribution cap from the mixing assembly flow aperture. The dividing tube includes a first dividing tube inlet aperture that is configured to receive the exhaust gas from the distribution cap. The dividing tube outlet aperture is configured to provide the exhaust gas to the mixing assembly flow aperture.

Exhaust Gas Processing Device

In an exhaust gas processing device, an air-fuel ratio sensor is provided such that a measuring portion is located in a region surrounded by a downstream-side end surface of a TWC, an upstream-side end surface of a GPF, and an inner wall surface of a case against which the exhaust gas G that has passed through the TWC flows, that is the region a region on the GPF side of the center of the TWC.

Device to convey a chemical reactant into the exhaust gas stream of a combustion engine

A device for supplying a chemical reactant into the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, comprising: a mixer housing; a metering pipe passing through the mixer housing, towards which the exhaust flow flowing into the mixer housing flows in a transverse direction, and having a first end and a second end; a metering unit arranged at the first end of the metering pipe and connected to a reactant supply for discharging reactant into the metering pipe; and means for generating a swirl flow of the exhaust flow within the metering pipe. The metering pipe has at least one inflow opening extending over a casing surface segment of no less than 45° in the circumferential direction and extending over at least one section of the length of the metering pipe, said inflow opening having a shovel-like hood arranged on the metering pipe and directing the exhaust flow eccentrically into the inflow opening.

Acoustically Tuned Muffler

A muffler for receiving exhaust gas from a combustion engine comprises a shell, first and second inlet pipes each having outlets providing exhaust gas to a mixing chamber within the shell, a first chamber and a second chamber positioned within the shell and a pair of communication pipes each including an inlet receiving exhaust gas from the mixing chamber. Each communication pipe includes an outlet providing exhaust to the second chamber. Each of the communication pipes further includes a Helmholtz opening positioned downstream of the mixing chamber. The Helmholtz openings are open to the first chamber.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER

A catalytic converter is provided with: an inlet-side diffuser part; an outlet-side diffuser part; a case including an upstream-side cylindrical part and a downstream-side cylindrical part; an inner liner provided in the upstream-side cylindrical part; a first catalyst retained inside the inner liner; and a second catalyst retained inside the downstream-side cylindrical part. An end face of the second catalyst faces a peripheral surface of the inner liner. An annular flow path is provided between the upstream-side cylindrical part and the inner liner, and the first catalyst is insulated from heat by the annular flow path.
