Acoustically tuned muffler

A muffler may include a shell, first and second baffles, an inlet pipe, first and second outlet pipes, and a communication pipe. The first and second baffles cooperate with the shell to define first, second and third chambers. The first inlet pipe may extend through the shell and may provide exhaust gas to at least one of the first and second chambers. Exhaust gas in the first chamber exits the muffler through the first outlet pipe. Exhaust gas in the second chamber exits the muffler through the second outlet pipe. The communication pipe may include first, second and third openings. The first opening is in communication with the first chamber. The second opening is in communication with the second chamber. The third opening is in communication with the third chamber. The first and second chambers may be in communication with the third chamber through the communication pipe.

Muffler, compressor assembly, and refrigerator

A muffler includes a housing and a partition member. The housing includes a cavity, a gas inlet, and a gas outlet. The gas inlet and the gas outlet are respectively in communication with the cavity. The partition member is disposed in the housing. The partition member partitions the cavity into a resonant cavity and a muffling cavity that are isolated from each other. The resonant cavity is in communication only with the gas inlet. The muffling cavity is in communication with both the gas inlet and the gas outlet.

Exhaust gas aftertreatment device

A device for the aftertreatment of exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, having at least one catalytic converter, through which exhaust gas can flow, and at least one muffler formed by a closed volume and through which exhaust gas can flow along an inflow section to an outflow section. The catalytic converter is formed by a honeycomb body that has a plurality of flow channels through which exhaust gas can flow. The honeycomb body is accommodated in a casing tube, which surrounds the honeycomb body, and is connected to the casing tube in a materially bonded manner. The catalytic converter is arranged in the interior of the muffler.

Exhaust silencer device

An exhaust silencer device which is interposed in an exhaust passage in a vehicle to reduce exhaust noise comprises a sub-muffler which is interposed in the exhaust passage and has an expansion chamber formed therein; an inlet pipe which is airtightly inserted through an inlet opening of the sub-muffler; and an outlet pipe which is airtightly inserted through an outlet opening of the sub-muffler, wherein the inlet pipe and the outlet pipe are formed with openings (small apertures, non-joined portions) only in their upper half area and their lower half area is sealed without having the openings.

Disclosed is a muffler for a water-cooled chiller or air-cooled of a vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration system, the muffler having: an upstream case (110) having a fluid inlet (120); a downstream case (115) connected to the upstream case at a downstream end of the upstream case, the downstream case having a fluid outlet (125); the upstream case having a plurality of axially adjacent outer muffler rings (145) and a plurality of axially adjacent inner muffler rings (155), the outer muffler rings being axially coextensive and a radially exterior to the inner muffler rings and defining a fluid inlet passage (140) therebetween, wherein the outer muffler rings and inner muffler rings are a metal mesh material.

Exhaust system tuner tube to reduce standing wave

A muffler assembly for an exhaust system is in fluid communication with a collector via an exhaust conduit. The muffler assembly includes a primary pipe, a valve, a secondary pipe, a tuner tube and a bleed port. The primary pipe extends through an enclosed volume of the muffler. The valve is operable to restrict flow through the primary pipe. When a standing wave is present, a resonance length is defined by a length of the exhaust system that extends from the collector to the valve. The tuner tube includes an open tuner tube end in fluid communication with the primary pipe and a closed tuner tube end. The tuner tube has a tuner tube length that is substantially one-quarter of the resonance length. The bleed port is formed in the primary pipe, allowing fluid communication with the enclosed volume, and positioned downstream from open tuner tube end.

Acoustically Tuned Muffler

A muffler for receiving exhaust gas from a combustion engine comprises a shell, first and second inlet pipes each having outlets providing exhaust gas to a mixing chamber within the shell, a first chamber and a second chamber positioned within the shell and a pair of communication pipes each including an inlet receiving exhaust gas from the mixing chamber. Each communication pipe includes an outlet providing exhaust to the second chamber. Each of the communication pipes further includes a Helmholtz opening positioned downstream of the mixing chamber. The Helmholtz openings are open to the first chamber.

Exhaust sound attenuation device

An exhaust muffler for an internal combustion engine includes a housing. A plurality of partitions are disposed within the housing, defining a plurality of chambers. An inlet pipe and an outlet pipe are also disposed within the housing and both the inlet and outlet pipes include a perforated region. The perforated region permits fluid communication between the inlet pipe, outlet pipe and the plurality of chambers. To attenuate engine noise, the perforated regions of the inlet and outlet pipes are positioned at opposite ends of the housing, forcing the exhaust gas to pass through each of the plurality of partitions and chambers, thereby damping the sound waves with minimum effect on engine back pressure levels. Alternatively, the perforated regions of the inlet and outlet pipes may be aligned in a cross-flow chamber.
