METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL
Methods and systems are provided for a low temperature NOx adsorber (LTNA). In one example, a method includes initiating a desulfation of an LTNA responsive to an estimated sulfur exposure exceeding a threshold, the desulfation including heating the LTNA to a first threshold temperature while maintaining an exhaust oxygen level above a threshold level throughout the entire desulfation.
Catalyst oxygen purge control apparatus and method
A catalyst oxygen purge control method may include a catalyst oxygen purge control method during a cold engine period of a catalyst oxygen purge control apparatus which includes a three way catalytic converter through which an exhaust gas combusted when air and fuel are mixed in a combustion chamber is exhausted and the exhaust gas passes, wherein the method includes determining whether a fuel cut condition of an injector which injects the fuel to the combustion chamber is satisfied, performing fuel cut of the injector when the fuel cut condition is satisfied, measuring an oxygen storage capacity of the three way catalyst, and adjusting an oxygen purge time based on the measured oxygen storage capacity.
Method for restricting work produced by a combustion engine
The present invention relates to a method for restricting work produced by combustion in a combustion chamber, wherein an aftertreatment system is arranged for reduction of at least one substance resulting from the combustion, wherein the work produced by the combustion is restricted when there is a malfunction regarding reduction of the at least one substance. The method includes: performing a first evaluation regarding the reduction of the at least one substance, when the first evaluation indicates a malfunction, performing a second evaluation regarding the reduction of the at least one substance, the second evaluation being different from the first evaluation, and restricting work produced by the combustion only when a malfunction regarding reduction of the at least one substance is indicated also by the second evaluation.
APPROACH FOR AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM MODELING AND MODEL IDENTIFICATION
A system and approach for catalyst model parameter identification with modeling accomplished by an identification procedure that may incorporate a catalyst parameter identification procedure which may include determination of parameters for a catalyst device, specification of values for parameters and component level identification. Component level identification may be of a thermal model, adsorption and desorption, and chemistry. There may then be system level identification to get a final estimate of catalyst parameters.
EXHAUST PURIFICATION SYSTEM OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An exhaust purification system of an internal combustion engine includes a catalyst arranged in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine and able to store oxygen, a storage amount calculating part configured to calculate an oxygen storage amount of the catalyst, a poisoning amount calculating part configured to calculate a poisoning amount of the catalyst, and an oxygen amount control part configured to control an amount of oxygen supplied to the catalyst based on the oxygen storage amount and the poisoning amount.
Abnormality diagnosis system for an exhaust gas purification apparatus
A controller estimates a first estimated adsorption amount which is an amount of adsorption of ammonia in the SCR catalyst at the time when the SCR catalyst is assumed to be in a predetermined abnormal state, estimates a second estimated adsorption amount at the time when the SCR catalyst is assumed to be in a predetermined normal state, calculates a first slip development temperature based on the first estimated adsorption amount, and calculates a second slip development temperature based on the second estimated adsorption amount. The controller, when carrying out an abnormality diagnosis based on a concentration of ammonia in an exhaust gas at the downstream side of the SCR catalyst, carries out diagnostic temperature control so as to control the temperature of the SCR catalyst to a temperature which is equal to or more than the first slip development temperature and is less than the second slip development temperature.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DIAGNOSIS OF NOX STORAGE CATALYST
Systems, apparatuses, and methods include an upstream exhaust analysis circuit structured to determine a characteristic of an exhaust gas stream entering a nitrous oxide (NOx) storage catalyst; a prediction circuit structured to predict a downstream NOx concentration of an exhaust gas stream exiting the NOx storage catalyst based on a model of a NOx storage capacity or a dynamic response of the NOx storage catalyst; a downstream exhaust analysis circuit structured to determine a downstream NOx concentration of the exhaust gas stream exiting the NOx storage catalyst; and a comparison circuit structured to compare the predicted downstream NOx concentration to the determined downstream NOx concentration, and determine a health of the NOx storage catalyst based on the comparison.
Exhaust after-treatment in heavy-duty motor vehicles
Controlling exhaust after-treatment in a heavy-duty motor vehicle includes operating a diesel engine of a heavy-duty truck such that the diesel engine generates an exhaust gas flow that enters an exhaust after-treatment system of the heavy-duty truck, the exhaust after-treatment system including a selective catalytic reduction system, measuring a level of NO.sub.x gases in the exhaust gas flow downstream of the selective catalytic reduction system, and controlling a diesel exhaust fluid injector upstream of the selective catalytic reduction system to inject diesel exhaust fluid into the exhaust gas flow upstream of the selective catalytic reduction system at an injection rate that is based on the measured level of NO.sub.x gases.
CATALYST DETERIORATION DIAGNOSIS METHOD AND CATALYST DETERIORATION DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
A catalyst deterioration diagnosis method is a method for a system. The system includes a gas sensor having ammonia interference property that measures an air-fuel ratio and nitrogen oxide concentration of an exhaust gas that has passed through a catalyst. Monitoring of temporary increase of nitrogen oxide concentration to be detected by the gas sensor is started, and thereby a temporarily increased amount of the nitrogen oxide concentration is acquired. The monitoring is started when a fuel injection device restarts fuel injection after a fuel cut in a case where an air-fuel ratio most recently obtained by the gas sensor is larger than a predetermined threshold air-fuel ratio. The predetermined threshold air-fuel ratio is larger than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. Whether or not the temporarily increased amount is larger than a threshold amount is determined.
