An exemplary vehicle exhaust system includes, among other things, a housing defining a fluid chamber and at least one pressure sensor positioned within the fluid chamber. The housing has a fluid inlet configured to receive fluid from a fluid supply and a fluid outlet. A heater heats fluid supplied from the fluid supply such that heated fluid can be injected into a vehicle exhaust component via the fluid outlet. A controller is configured to receive pressure data from the at least one pressure sensor and to determine optimal timing for dosing of the vehicle exhaust component based on the pressure data.

A method includes: initiating a low engine-out NOx (LEON) mode by controlling a component of a vehicle having an aftertreatment system to decrease an instantaneous engine-out NOx (EONOx) amount; comparing a temperature of the aftertreatment system during the LEON mode to a warm-operation threshold temperature; responsive to determining that the temperature of the aftertreatment system exceeds the warm-operation threshold temperature, disengaging the LEON mode; responsive to determining that the temperature of the aftertreatment system is below the warm-up operation threshold temperature, comparing information indicative of an operating status of the vehicle to a LEON exit threshold; and disengaging the LEON mode responsive to determining that the information indicative of the operating status of the vehicle during the LEON mode exceeds the LEON exit threshold.

The invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst based on an AFX zeolite exchanged with at least one transition metal, comprising at least the following steps:

i) mixing, in an aqueous medium, of at least one source of silicon (Si) in SiO.sub.2 oxide form, at least one source of aluminum (Al) in Al.sub.2O.sub.3 oxide form, 1,6-bis(methylpiperidinium)hexane dihydroxide, and at least one source of at least one alkali metal, until a homogeneous precursor gel is obtained;
ii) hydrothermal treatment at a temperature between 75° C. and 95° C., limits included;
iii) at least one ion exchange with a solution comprising at least one species capable of releasing a transition metal,
iv) heat treatment by drying followed by at least one calcination under a stream of air at a temperature between 400 and 700° C. The invention also relates to the catalyst obtained and to the use thereof for the selective reduction of NOx.

The ammonia generating catalyst comprises a NO.sub.x storage component, a refractory metal oxide support, a platinum component, and a palladium component. The ammonia generating catalyst is substantially free of ceria. The platinum and palladium components are present in a platinum to palladium ratio of greater than about 1 to 1.

Controller and method for controlling operation of an aftertreatment system based on short-term and long-term cumulative degradation estimates

A controller for controlling operation of an aftertreatment system that is configured to treat constituents of an exhaust gas produced by an engine, the aftertreatment system including a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, the controller configured to: generate a short-term cumulative degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst corresponding to reversible degradation of the SCR catalyst due to sulfur and/or hydrocarbons based on a SCR catalyst temperature parameter; generate a long-term cumulative degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst corresponding to thermal aging of the SCR catalyst based on the SCR catalyst temperature parameter; generate a combined degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst based on the short-term cumulative degradation estimate and the long-term cumulative degradation estimate; and adjust an amount of reductant and/or an amount of hydrocarbons inserted into the aftertreatment system based on the combined degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst.

Aftertreatment system including preheating oxidation catalyst

An aftertreatment system for treating an exhaust gas comprises an exhaust conduit, a preheating oxidation catalyst, a primary oxidation catalyst disposed downstream of the preheating oxidation catalyst, and a selective catalytic reduction system disposed in the exhaust conduit downstream of the primary oxidation catalyst. A controller is configured to determine a temperature of an exhaust gas at an inlet of the selective catalytic reduction system. In response to the temperature being below a threshold temperature, the controller generates a hydrocarbon insertion signal configured to cause hydrocarbons to be inserted into or upstream of the preheating oxidation catalyst so as to increase a temperature of the exhaust gas to above the threshold temperature.

Control of selective catalytic reduction in heavy-duty motor vehicle engines

A heavy duty truck includes a diesel engine that generates an exhaust gas flow and an exhaust after-treatment system for treatment of the exhaust gas flow. The exhaust after-treatment system includes at least one temperature sensor at an underbody SCR system within the exhaust after-treatment system and a DEF injector upstream of a close-coupled SCR system within the exhaust after-treatment system. The DEF injector is operated to inject DEF into the exhaust gas flow at a rate that varies as a function of a temperature measured by the temperature sensor.

Low soot stoichiometric compression-ignition combustion

A combustion system including a combustion mechanism that injects oxygenated fuel into a combustion chamber. The oxygenated fuel mixes with the intake air in the combustion chamber where the air-fuel ratio in a portion of the combustion chamber is stoichiometric. The combustion mechanism includes an ignition mechanism that ignites the air-fuel mixture that generates a threshold number of particulates during combustion of the air-fuel mixture. The combustion system further includes an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) device that recirculates a portion of the exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber. The EGR device recirculates the portion of the exhaust to lower combustion temperature resulting in reduced amount of nitrogen oxide in the exhaust. The combustion system further includes a three-way catalytic converter in line with the exhaust channel to convert a second portion of the exhaust gases, leading to lower pollutant emissions than conventional combustion systems.
