CONTROL APPARATUS FOR COMPRESSION-IGNITION TYPE ENGINE
A control apparatus for a compression-ignition type engine is applied to an engine capable of carrying out partial compression ignition combustion in which an air-fuel mixture is subjected to CI combustion by self-ignition. The control apparatus creates a lean A/F environment where an air-fuel ratio as a ratio between air and fuel in a cylinder exceeds 20 and is lower than 35, or a lean G/F environment where a gas air-fuel ratio as a ratio between entire gas and the fuel in the cylinder exceeds 18 and is lower than 50 and the air-fuel ratio substantially matches a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. Prior to planned timing of the CI combustion, in the lean A/F environment or the lean G/F environment, the control apparatus causes an ignition plug to generate a spark and to generate a high-temperature portion.

CONTROL APPARATUS FOR COMPRESSION-IGNITION TYPE ENGINE
The invention is provided with an ignition control section and an injection control section. When partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the ignition control section causes an ignition plug to carry out: main ignition in which a spark is generated in a late period of a compression stroke or an initial period of an expansion stroke to initiate SI combustion; and preceding ignition in which the spark is generated at earlier timing than the main ignition. Also, when the partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the injection control section causes an injector to inject fuel at such timing that the fuel exists in a cylinder at an earlier time point than the preceding ignition. Timing of the preceding ignition is set to be more retarded when an engine speed is high than when the engine speed is low.

Internal Combustion Engine with Cross-Boosting Turbochargers
An internal combustion engine having two “banks” of cylinders, the “banks” being defined by cross-connection to different turbochargers. The exhaust from one bank of cylinders goes to a first turbocharger, and the exhaust from the other bank of cylinders goes to a second turbocharger. However, the compressed air delivered from the turbochargers is cross-connected to the cylinder banks. This allows a cylinder bank to be boosted with a turbocharger whose compressed air output does not necessarily match the exhaust energy of that cylinder bank.

Control device for compression ignition engine
A control device is provided for a compression ignition engine, which controls so that partial compression ignition combustion of A/F-lean mixture gas is carried out in a specific range where an engine load is low. In a first range of the specific range, a normal ignition in which sparks are generated in a late period of compression stroke or an early period of expansion stroke to start SI combustion, and a preceding ignition in which sparks are generated at a timing included in intake stroke or compression stroke and earlier than the normal ignition by a given amount or more are performed, and fuel is injected at a timing where fuel is present before the preceding ignition inside the combustion chamber. In a high-load side second range of the specific range, at least the normal ignition is performed and the execution of the preceding ignition is limited.

Control device for pre-mixture compression ignition engine
A control device is provided for an engine in which premixed compression ignition combustion is carried out. The device includes an air amount adjusting mechanism, a variable valve mechanism, an exhaust choke valve, a water temperature sensor, and a processor. The processor controls the variable valve mechanism so that a valve overlap period of a given amount or more is formed in a low-load range where the engine load is low, and controls an injector, the air amount adjusting mechanism, and the exhaust choke valve so that A/F lean mixture gas is formed inside a combustion chamber, and premixed compression ignition combustion of the mixture gas is carried out. During the operation in the low-load range, the combustion controlling module makes an opening of the exhaust choke valve when a temperature parameter is low, smaller than that when the temperature parameter is high.
