PRE-COMBUSTION CHAMBER SYSTEM

A pre-combustion chamber system is presented. The pre-combustion chamber system includes a pre-combustion chamber housing defining a pre-combustion chamber, a cooling chamber housing surrounding the pre-combustion chamber housing, a cooling chamber defined between the pre-combustion chamber housing and the cooling chamber housing. The pre-combustion chamber system includes a flow agitator arranged in the pre-combustion chamber housing protruding into the pre-combustion chamber. The flow agitator increases flow disturbance in the pre-combustion chamber for improving mixture of fuel and air. Cooling of the pre-combustion chamber system is improved by dividing the cooling chamber into a cooling inner chamber and a cooling outlet chamber or by arranging cooling fins in the pre-combustion chamber housing extending into the cooling chamber.

PRECOMBUSTION CHAMBER ENGINE

A precombustion chamber engine comprises: a cylinder head defining a main combustion chamber together with a cylinder liner and a piston top surface; a precombustion chamber cap mounted on the cylinder head by inserting a distal end portion of the precombustion chamber cap into an insertion hole formed in the cylinder head; a precombustion chamber holder disposed inside the cylinder head; and a precombustion chamber cap holding member fixed to the precombustion chamber holder and configured to suspend and support the precombustion chamber cap. The precombustion chamber cap includes a reduced diameter portion with a diameter decreasing from a proximal end portion of the precombustion chamber cap to an intermediate portion that has a smaller diameter than the proximal end portion. The precombustion chamber cap holding member is configured to lock the reduced diameter portion and to have a gap between the precombustion chamber cap holding member and the proximal end portion when the precombustion chamber cap holding member suspends and supports the precombustion chamber cap.

A residual gas ignitor for use in igniting a fuel-air mixture within a main combustion chamber of an engine. The residual gas ignitor includes at least one inlet/outlet port, a residual gas ignitor chamber for receiving a combustion gas from the main combustion chamber, an ignitor valve for opening and closing the at least one inlet/outlet port, an actuator for actuating the ignitor valve to open and close the at least one inlet/outlet port, a valve guide for keeping the ignitor valve in a correct orientation within the residual gas ignitor, a preload spring for being in compression when the actuator disposes the ignitor valve into the closed position, and a heating element for maintaining or increasing a temperature of the combustion gas while the combustion gas is in the residual gas ignitor chamber. The residual gas ignitor may be used in engines for initiating combustion of fuel-air mixtures.

A pre-chamber for a fuel injector is disclosed. The pre-chamber includes a cylindrical body member extending axially from a first end portion to a second end portion opposite to the first end portion. The pre-chamber further includes a bottom plate located proximal to the first end portion of the cylindrical body member. The pre-chamber also includes a sacrificial member extending axially outwards from the second end portion of the cylindrical body member.

The present invention uses an improved engineered metal seal with or without an internal energized spring that is disposed in a pre-combustion chamber apparatus assembly to improve sealing over the flat washer seals that are currently used. The seals of the present invention comprise at least three different geometrical configurations of seals that are manufactured from titanium, Inconel, and/or hastelloy. The design of the tip and body of the pre-combustion chamber provide for movement of the seal without leaking. The sealing is provided on the axial surfaces of the tip and the body instead of the face of the tip and body by a flat washer seal, as is currently done.
