SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR HEATING AN AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM
A method for warming an aftertreatment system of an engine system while an engine of the engine system is not running comprising starting at least one of an electric compressor and an electric heater using stored electrical energy and passing air through the engine system to at least a portion of the aftertreatment system when the engine of the engine system is not running.
ELECTRIFIED AIR SYSTEM FOR REMOVING COLD START AIDS
An intake system for use with an internal combustion engine having one or more cylinders. The intake system including a compressor assembly having an inlet and an outlet, and where the outlet is configured to be open to and in fluid communication with at least one of the one or more cylinders. The intake system also includes a passageway extending between and in fluid communication with the inlet and the outlet and configured to direct a first flow of gasses and a controller in operable communication with the compressor assembly. Where the intake system is operable in a first mode in which the majority of gasses of the first flow of gasses flow through the passageway toward the outlet, and a second mode in which the majority of gasses of the first flow of gasses flow through the passageway toward the inlet.
Method and system for an on board compressor
Methods and systems to provide compressed air via exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine are presented. In one example, a pump comprising two pistons is driven via engine exhaust gases. On piston within the pump moves in response to the exhaust gases while the other piston acts to compress air.
Engine assembly with intercooler
A method of operating an engine assembly receiving fuel, including admitting atmospheric air at a temperature T.sub.1 through an inlet of a compressor having a pressure ratio of PR.sub.GT, compressing the air in the compressor, cooling the compressed air from the compressor through an intercooler to cool the air from a temperature T.sub.BIC to a temperature T.sub.AIC, delivering the cooled compressed air from the intercooler to an inlet of an intermittent internal combustion engine having an effective volumetric compression ratio r.sub.VC, and further compressing the air in the intermittent internal combustion engine before igniting the fuel, where
An engine assembly is also discussed.
ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTED PROPULSION USING EXHAUST RECOVERY POWER
An aircraft power system comprises a turbocharger, the turbocharger including a compressor for supplying combustion air to an internal combustion engine, a turbine operatively connected to an internal combustion engine to receive an exhaust flow from the internal combustion engine and convert energy of the exhaust flow into rotational power and, a turbo shaft operatively connecting the turbine to the compressor to transfer at least some of the rotational power to the compressor. A generator is operatively connected to the turbo shaft to receive at least some of the rotational power from the turbo shaft for generating electrical power. At least one electrically powered air-mover is electrically connected to the generator to receive at least some of the electrical power to produce thrust.
Electrified air system for removing cold start aids
An internal combustion engine including a block, a head coupled to the block to at least partially define a cylinder therebetween, and a compressor assembly having an inlet and an outlet in fluid communication with the cylinder. Where the compressor is operable in a first mode, in which a first portion of the gasses exiting the outlet are directed to the cylinder and a second portion of the gasses exiting the outlet is recirculated back to the inlet.
METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AN ELECTRIFIED TURBOCHARGER OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE, AND A MOTOR VEHICLE WITH AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for controlling an electrical exhaust gas turbocharger of an internal combustion engine includes a measure (a), in accordance with which a load requirement placed on the internal combustion engine is monitored, and a measure (b), in accordance with which a boost mode of the electrical exhaust gas turbocharger is activated if the load requirement monitored in measure (a) exceeds a predetermined threshold value.
Enabling power unit protection modes without de rates
A power unit for use with an internal combustion engine including a compressor housing, a compressor wheel positioned within and rotatable with respect to the compressor housing, a shaft coupled to the compressor wheel and rotatable together therewith, a motor assembly in operable communication with the shaft, and a controller in operable communication with the motor assembly. Where the controller is adjustable between a first mode of operation, in which the motor assembly applies torque to the shaft in a first direction of rotation, and a second mode of operation, in which the motor assembly unit applies torque to the shaft in a second direction of rotation opposite the first direction of rotation.
