Two-stroke engine having fuel/air transfer piston
A two-stroke engine includes an engine block which defines a fuel/air transfer cylinder and a combustion cylinder. A piston is operative within the combustion cylinder in a two-stroke power producing manner while a fuel/air transfer piston is operative within the fuel/air transfer cylinder to inject fuel/air mixture into the combustion cylinder. The engine further includes a cylinder head which supports a plurality of movable valves to control the flow of air and fuel through the engine.
Elliptically-shaped combustion chamber
The present invention relates to a combustion chamber of a combustion engine. The combustion chamber comprises a single intake valve (2), a single exhaust valve (3), a fuel injector (5) and two plugs (4). According to the invention, the combustion chamber is substantially elliptical (6) and the components of the combustion chamber are arranged as follows: valves (2, 3) are located at the ends of the major axis (8) of ellipse (6), plugs (4) are located close to the minor axis (9) of ellipse (6), fuel injector (5) is located on the periphery of ellipse (6) between intake valve (2) and a plug (4).
Cleaning installation for an internal combustion engine
An installation for cleaning a motorization system includes an injector, a diagnostic device, and a controller. The injector executes a cleaning sequence for cleaning the motorization system. It does so by injecting a cleaning fluid into one of the inlets. The diagnostic device determines a soiling level as a function of a defect level. The soiling level is indicative of a level of soiling of the motorization system and the defect level is indicative of a level of defectiveness of the first moving part. The controller is configured to supply cleaning parameters to the injection devices for execution of the cleaning sequence. These cleaning parameters depend on the soiling level.
Control device for compression-ignition engine
A control device for a compression-ignition (CI) engine in which partial CI combustion including spark ignition (SI) combustion performed by combusting a portion of mixture gas inside a cylinder by spark ignition followed by CI combustion performed by causing the rest of the mixture gas inside the cylinder to self-ignite is executed within a part of an engine operating range, is provided, including an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) controller configured to change an EGR ratio, and a combustion controller configured to control the EGR controller during the partial compression-ignition combustion to switch a combustion mode between first and second modes in which the EGR ratio is higher than the first mode. After the first mode is switched to the second mode, if a condition is satisfied, the combustion controller causes the resumption to the first mode after a given period of time has elapsed from the switching.
ENGINE
Improvements to an engine comprise an air compressor cylinder with a piston, a combustion chamber cylinder with a piston. An engine has added an expansion chamber cylinder with a piston. Pistons each have a connecting rod and connecting rod head and associated parts adapted for reciprocating motion via combustion products, and a transmission associated with the engine. Improvements are to the piston seals, ignition assembly, valve shape and stem/rocker, valve operating mechanism, construction of head, heat management/heat shield, connecting rod/piston rotator, engine balancing, fuel pump placement, and a machining process.

Engine controller
An engine controller according to one aspect of the invention is applied to a cylinder injection engine including a fuel injection valve that directly injects fuel into a cylinder. The engine controller determines whether knocking is occurring based on a signal from a knocking sensor. When the knocking is occurring, the engine controller performs partial lift fuel injection at a predetermined timing close to an ignition timing. The partial lift fuel injection is performed with a lift amount of a valve body of the fuel injection valve limited within a range between a minimum lift amount (0) and a partial lift amount, which is smaller than a maximum lift amount.

Fuel reforming system and method for controlling temperature of a fuel reformer
A fuel reformer includes a housing. A mixing portion is provided in the housing, the mixing portion being a space for mixing fuel supplied from the outside with an EGR gas. A reforming catalyst portion is provided on a side opposite the mixing portion and is configured to reform the mixed fuel and the EGR gas in the mixing portion. A first heater is disposed around an outer periphery of the housing surrounding the mixing portion. A second heater is disposed around an outer periphery of the housing surrounding the reforming catalyst portion. The first and second heaters are configured to transmit thermal energy to the fuel reformer.
Crankshafts and Systems for Natural Gas Compression
Modified connecting rod journals containing a first cylindrical portion and a second cylindrical portion can be used in a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine used in a gas compression system. These modified journals allow multiple stroke lengths for the pistons of the system thereby increasing system efficiency.
