COOLED MECHANICAL CIRCULATORY SUPPORT SYSTEM AND METHOD OF OPERATION
A mechanical circulatory support system for a heart having a cooling element and a method for using the system to treat the effects of a cardiac episode. The support system has a pump having a distal end and a proximal end, the pump comprising a rotor, the rotor having at least one blade. The system also has a catheter having a distal end, a proximal end, and inner surface, and an outer surface, the catheter extending proximally of relative to the pump housing. The outer surface of the catheter is configured to contact blood when disposed within patient vasculature. The outer surface of the catheter comprises a heat transfer surface configured for cooling blood that comes in contact with the outer surface. The cooling element can be either a helix or double helix extending along a catheter surface or a Peltier element on the surface. The support system is operated to provide a temperature selected to cool the circulating blood in contact with the outer surface of the catheter to a temperature selected to reduce or prevent an effect of a cardiac episode
Wound treatment apparatus
A bandage has a first sheet overlying a wound and located adjacent to it and a top sheet overlying the first sheet. The first sheet has a plurality of discrete passageways overlying the wound and adapted to communicate negative pressure established by a negative pressure source to the wound.
POSITION-ASSISTING DEVICE FOR EXPRESSING MILK
A position-assisting device for milk expression includes an upright body wedge pillow that defines a back side that has an armrest, a front user-engagement side that is sloped back, lateral sides, and a bottom side. The upright body wedge pillow has an upper head-rest section and an interior cavity that has a front face that opens to the front user-engagement side so as to be able to receive a woman's breasts for milk expression. There are breast pumps located in the interior cavity for milk expression.
Assembly, esophagus catheter and method for controlling a temperature of at least a part of a person, in particular the brain of the person
The present invention relates to an assembly for controlling a temperature of at least a part of a person, comprising an esophagus catheter to be inserted into the esophagus of the person for controlling the temperature. The esophagus catheter extends along a longitudinal axis and comprises a proximal heat exchanger defining a first flow direction having a first axial component relative to the longitudinal axis, and a distal heat exchanger defining a second flow direction having a second axial component relative to the longitudinal axis. The esophagus catheter further comprises a plurality of coolant channels each in fluid communication with at least one of the proximal heat exchanger and the distal heat exchanger, and a coolant pump connected or connectable to at least one of the plurality of coolant channels. The assembly is configured to cause simultaneously a coolant flow through the proximal heat exchanger and the distal heat exchanger.
Fluid cassette with polymeric membranes and integral inlet and outlet tubes for patient heat exchange system
A working fluid cassette for an intravascular heat exchange catheter includes a frame holding two closely spaced, square polymeric membranes along the sides of which are disposed inlet and outlet tubes. Working fluid from the catheter is directed from the inlet tube between the membranes to the outlet tube. The cassette is closely received between two refrigerant cold plates to exchange heat with the working fluid, which is circulated back to the catheter.
Methods for preparing frozen plasma material for rapid thawing in an emergency situation
Systems for controlled freezing, storing and thawing a biological material in a bag and supporting apparatus. The systems are adapted to receive the biological material therein for freezing, storing, transporting and rapid thawing immediately prior to administration to a patient in need of the biological material.

A ventricular assist system and a blood pump controller including a blood pump usable in a state where a first slide surface and a second slide surface are brought into contact with each other, and a cool sealing liquid is supplied to a gap formed between the first slide surface and the second slide surface; a first sub controller having a first cool sealing liquid reservoir, a cool sealing liquid pump, a first pipe joint upstream side, and a fourth pipe joint downstream side; and a second sub controller having a blood pump drive circuit, a battery, a first pipe joint downstream side, a second pipe joint upstream side, a third pipe joint downstream side, and a fourth pipe joint upstream side. The first sub controller and the second sub controller are detachably connected by a first pipe joint and a fourth pipe joint.
REDUCED ROTATIONAL MASS MOTOR ASSEMBLY FOR CATHETER PUMP
A catheter pump is disclosed. The catheter pump can include an impeller and a catheter body having a lumen in which waste fluid flows proximally therethrough during operation of the catheter pump. The catheter pump can also include a drive shaft disposed inside the catheter body. A motor assembly can include a chamber. The motor assembly can include a rotor disposed in the at least a portion of the chamber, the rotor mechanically coupled with a proximal portion of the drive shaft such that rotation of the rotor causes the drive shaft to rotate, the rotor including a longitudinal rotor lumen therethrough. The motor assembly can also comprise a stator assembly disposed about the rotor. During operation of the catheter pump, the waste fluid flows from the lumen into the chamber such that at least a portion of the waste fluid flows proximally through the longitudinal rotor lumen.

A fluid pumping system may comprise a pump and a fluid line state detector having, a receptacle, at sensor, and an illuminator. The system may further comprise a fluid transfer set including an output line for mating into the receptacle. The system may further comprise a controller in data communication with the fluid line state detector configured to power the illuminator and monitor an output signal of the sensor when the outlet line is in the receptacle to determine a dry tube light intensity value. The controller may be further configured to govern operation of the pump to prime the output line with fluid. The controller may be further configured to power the illuminator, monitor the output signal, and halt operation of the pump when the output signal indicates the light intensity value has dropped below a primed line threshold which is dependent upon the dry tube intensity value.
