Distributed negative pressure wound therapy system incorporating an absorbent dressing and piezo-electric pump
A negative pressure wound therapy system includes a wound dressing, at least one pump fluidly coupled to the fluid interface, a pressure sensor fluidly coupled to the wound dressing, a control housing, and an electrical coupler. The wound dressing includes a sealing layer, an absorbent layer adjacent to the sealing layer, and a fluid interface attached to at least one of the sealing layer or the absorbent layer. The at least one pump is configured to apply negative pressure to the fluid interface to draw fluid from the wound dressing via the fluid interface. The pressure sensor is configured to detect a fluid pressure of the wound dressing. The control housing is remote from the wound dressing. The electrical coupler is configured to removably connect the control housing to the at least one pump.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING A TOTAL BLOOD VOLUME FLOW IN A CARDIAC SUPPORT SYSTEM AND VASCULAR SUPPORT SYSTEM
The invention relates to a method for determining a total fluid volume flow (1) in the region of an implanted vascular support system (2), comprising the following steps: a) determining a reference temperature (3) of the fluid, b) determining a motor temperature (4) of an electric motor (5) of the support system (2), c) determining the thermal dissipation loss (6) of the electric motor (5), d) ascertaining the total fluid volume flow (1) using the reference temperature (3), the motor temperature (4), and the thermal dissipation loss (6) of the electric motor (5).
EXTERNAL DRIVE UNIT FOR AN IMPLANTABLE HEART ASSIST PUMP
The application relates to an external drive unit (7) for an implantable heart assist pump. The proposed drive unit (7) comprises a motor (35) for driving the heart assist pump, wherein the motor (35) is connectable to the heart assist pump via a transcutaneous drive shaft (3). The drive unit (7) further comprises a heat spreader (19) comprising a contact surface configured to contact and/or directly contact and/or lie flat against a skin of a patient. The contact surface is connected or connectable with the motor (35) in a thermally-conductive manner to transfer heat generated by the motor (35) to tissue of the patient.
EXTERNAL DRIVE UNIT FOR AN IMPLANTABLE HEART ASSIST PUMP
An external drive unit for an implantable heart assist pump is provided. The drive unit comprises a motor housing, a transcutaneous drive shaft and a motor for driving the heart assist pump. The motor is connectable to the heart assist pump via the drive shaft, and the motor is arranged inside the motor housing. The drive unit further comprises a catheter surrounding the drive shaft and a purge line for injecting a purge medium into a lumen of the catheter or into a space between the catheter and the drive shaft. The purge line is in thermal contact with an outer surface of the motor housing and/or with an outer surface of a proximal section of the catheter. Due to the thermal contact heat is transferred from the outer surface of the catheter in the proximal section and/or from the outer surface of the motor housing to the purge medium.
