Engine oil dilution control in a hybrid vehicle

A vehicle includes an engine and a controller programmed to, responsive to an estimated oil dilution level of the engine exceeding a first threshold, issue commands such that regenerative braking is inhibited to increase a temperature of the engine, and responsive to the estimated oil dilution level falling below the first threshold, discontinue issuing the commands.

Methods and systems are provided for a dual function imaging device. In one example, a method may comprise imaging exhaust gas outside of a reverse engine condition via the imaging device. The imaging device may image a surrounding area during the reverse engine condition.

SUPERCHARGING DEVICE FOR ENGINE

A supercharging device for an engine is provided, which includes a supercharger provided to an intake passage of the engine, an actuator configured to drive the supercharger, and a controller including a processor configured to control the actuator to drive the supercharger when an operating state of the engine is in a given supercharging range, and to stop the supercharger when the operating state is in a non-supercharging range. The controller estimates an amount of condensate accumulated in an oil pan, and the controller causes the actuator to forcibly drive the supercharger when the estimated amount of condensate is more than a preset amount, even if the operating state is in the non-supercharging range.

Fuel injection amount control device

A fuel injection amount control device controls a fuel injection amount of an injector in an internal combustion engine including a blow-by gas ventilation system. The fuel injection amount control device includes a reflection rate setting section, a dilution correction section, and a dilution learning section. The reflection rate setting section sets a reflection rate proportional to the amount of a blow-by gas discharged to an intake air. The dilution correction section corrects a fuel injection amount by using, as a correction value, the product obtained by multiplying a reflection rate by a dilution learning value. The dilution learning section updates the dilution learning value such that an air-fuel ratio F/B correction value approaches 0 on the condition that a fuel dilution amount of engine oil is equal to or greater than a predetermined value.

Differential fuel injection

A system and methods for operating four in-line cylinders with common rail injection is described that comprises operating a first cylinder group without a compression and power stroke injection, but with an exhaust stroke injection while operating a second cylinder group with at least a compression stroke injection. In this way, the unburned fuel injected during the exhaust stroke enriches the exhaust-gas flow and further allows heating of the exhaust aftertreatment system. In one example provided, the first cylinder group is further configured to operate in an exhaust heating mode while also operating in a power generating mode.

Oil dilution rate calculation system of internal combustion engine

An oil dilution rate calculation system of an internal combustion engine acquires a blowby gas flow ratio showing the ratio of the flow of blowby gas to the flow of gas to the combustion chamber and an output current of the air-fuel ratio sensor during fuel cut control in which the internal combustion engine stops the feed of fuel to the combustion chamber and at a plurality of points of time of different flows of blowby gas passing through the blowby gas passage and flowing to the downstream side of the throttle valve in the intake passage, and calculate an oil dilution rate based on the acquired blowby gas flow ratio and output current.

Control device for oil pump

A control device for a variable-capacity oil pump provided in an engine using alcohol-containing fuel includes an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to: (i) estimate an alcohol concentration in oil of the engine, and (ii) correct a capacity of the oil pump to be increased in a correction condition as compared with a case where the correction condition is not established when the correction condition is established. The correction condition is that an estimated alcohol concentration is a predetermined concentration or more and a temperature of the oil is a predetermined temperature or more.

Method of operating an engine

Methods and systems are provided for regenerating a lean NOx trap. In one example, a method may include, responsive to an indication to regenerate a lean NOx trap (LNT), operating an engine with an overall rich air-fuel ratio to regenerate the LNT while minimizing fuel oil dilution by operating each cylinder of the engine with an alternating rich to lean air-fuel ratio pattern of two rich combustion events for every one lean combustion event across a plurality of engine cycles.

Engine control device

An engine control device sets a target value for the engine oil temperature appropriately in an engine that uses gasoline as a fuel, even when the fuel does not have a single boiling point because the gasoline is a mixed composition, or when the fuel property changes (for example, when the vaporization property changes due to deterioration). In other words, the engine control device prevents excessive heating or insufficient heating by changing the oil temperature to the high side in a condition wherein the fuel being used does not easily vaporize, and changing the oil temperature to the low side in a condition wherein the fuel being used easily vaporizes. This engine control device includes an oil temperature controller that controls the temperature of oil lubricating the interior of the engine; a fuel supply device that supplies fuel to the engine; and a detector for detecting the property of the fuel. The temperature of the oil is controlled on the basis of a signal from the detector.
