The solution of the invention is an internal combustion engine with oxygen concentrating equipment (80) wherein the air taken in the cylinder space (15) during the intake stroke and pushed out by the piston (5) during the charging stroke charges one or more cells (41A-41Z, 51A-51Z) of the oxygen concentrating equipment (80) and after separating most of the nitrogen in the cells (41A-41Z, 51A-51Z), the oxygen rich air is injected into the cylinder space (15) through a compressor (33) at the beginning of the expansion stroke by an injector (11). The fuel is also introduced into the cylinder space (15) at the beginning of the expansion stroke by a fuel injector (19). The ignition may be spark ignition, self-ignition or their combination.

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to internal combustion engines, combustion systems that include such internal combustion engines, and controls for controlling operation of the combustion engine. The internal combustion engine may include one or more mechanisms for injecting fuel, air, fuel-air mixture, or combinations thereof directly into one or more cylinders, and controls may operate or direct operation of such mechanisms.

Combustion-stabilizing device and combustion-stabilizing method for internal combustion engine

A change amount per unit time of an engine output command for controlling engine output of an internal combustion engine is calculated as an engine output increasing rate, and a power supply device is controlled so that power corresponding to the calculated engine output increasing rate is supplied to a combustion promoter generation device. The combustion promoter generation device generates a combustion promoter through the power supplied from the power supply device to supply the combustion promoter to a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, and a generation amount of the combustion promoter increases as the supplied power increases. In this manner, the generation amount of the combustion promoter is adjusted.

Adsorbent circulation for onboard octane on-demand and cetane on-demand

A vehicular propulsion system, a vehicular fuel system and a method of operating an internal combustion engine. A separation unit that makes up a part of the fuel system may selectively receive and separate at least a portion of onboard fuel and a flowable adsorbent in order to separate the fuel into octane-enhanced and cetane-enhanced fuel components. A controller may be used to determine a particular operating condition of the internal combustion engine such that the onboard fuel can be sent to one or more combustion chambers within the internal combustion engine without first passing through the separation unit during one operating condition, or instead to the separation unit in situations where the internal combustion engine may require an octane-rich or cetane-rich mixture in another operating condition.

Power system with internal combustion engine

A power system including a variable volume combustion chamber for a two-stroke engine having a controlled exhaust port, a fuel injector to the combustion chamber and an oxygen injector to the combustion chamber. The oxygen injector provides repeated oxygen injection pulses to complete a charge. The controlled exhaust port includes an oscillating rotatably mounted valve. A source of pressurized concentrated oxygen to the oxygen injector is in a closed case having a ceramic fiber membrane. An air inlet and a waste outlet are in communication with a first side of the ceramic fiber membrane. An oxygen outlet is in communication with a second side of the ceramic fiber Ionic transport membrane. The case has a heat transfer surface in communication with the controlled exhaust port from the combustion chamber.
