Exhaust gas recirculation cooler barrier layer
Aspects of the disclosure relate to providing an EGR cooler including a barrier layer applied to EGR cooler components while allowing sufficient heat transfer between exhaust gases and the cooling medium. A barrier layer may be applied onto particular surfaces of the EGR cooler components to prevent deposition of hydrocarbons or soot on the EGR cooler components. In some arrangements, the barrier layer may comprise a refractory solid oxide. In other arrangements, an EGR cooler may comprise a catalytic barrier layer. The catalytic barrier layer may include a refractory solid oxide and a platinum group metal or mixed metal oxide to prevent accumulation of varnish material deposited onto EGR cooler components.

Gas-liquid separator
A gas-liquid separator includes a cylindrical inlet pipe and a fluid inflow pipe. The inlet pipe includes a fluid inlet which is formed in a fluid entering side and radially opens. An axis line of the inlet pipe horizontally extends. The fluid inflow pipe includes at an end a connection opening connected to the fluid inlet. An axis line of the fluid inflow pipe horizontally extends. The fluid inflow pipe introduces the gas-liquid two-phase fluid through the fluid inlet from a side of the inlet pipe. In a connecting portion, a position of an axis line extending through a center of a connection opening in communication with the fluid inlet is vertically offset with respect to a position of the axis line of the inlet pipe.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GASPATH ACTUATORS
Methods and systems for unsticking a stuck gaspath actuator are disclosed. In one embodiment, an engine operating method includes adjusting exhaust valve timing of one or more cylinders of an engine in response to an indication that a gaspath actuator is stuck in position. In this way, pressure waves in an exhaust manifold and/or an intake manifold may be generated, which may act to unstick the gaspath actuator.
ENGINE FUEL REFORMING SYSTEM
A fuel reforming system includes a fuel injection device capable of injecting fuel into an EGR passage, a reforming catalyst provided in the EGR passage, an oxidation catalyst provided in the vicinity of the reforming catalyst in the EGR, and an air supply device that supplies air to the EGR passage. When clogging occurs in the reforming catalyst and a temperature of the reforming catalyst is less than a first temperature, air is supplied to the EGR passage by the air supply device, and fuel is injected by the fuel injection device. When clogging occurs in the reforming catalyst and the temperature of the reforming catalyst is greater than or equal to the first temperature, air is supplied to the EGR passage by the air supply device, and fuel injection of the fuel injection device is stopped.
Vehicle exhaust gas recirculation system utilizing an intake air pre-heater
An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system utilizes an intake air pre-heater to selectively heat the cool, dry intake air prior to the mixing point with the hot, humid EGR gases. This intake air pre-heater utilizes available heat from a high pressure (HP) EGR heat exchanger, circulating a cooling/heating fluid between the HP EGR heat exchanger and the intake air pre-heater. The intake air pre-heater is disposed in an intake air filter box, optionally on the dirty side of the air filter, and includes a heat exchanger conduit that is contacted with the intake air. The selective operation of the intake air pre-heater is controlled via an electronic control module (ECM) of the vehicle, based on the operating conditions of the vehicle and an appropriate temperature control model. Flow of the cooling/heating fluid is selectively enabled/disabled by a pump and/or valve assembly disposed along the associated high temperature (HT) cooling/heating circuit.
